The Back of the Sofa

Whenever I brush the back of the sofa,
It’s always full of surprises,
Forgotten toys, coins, socks,
Crumpled paper, lego blocks, etc
The longer I put it off,
The more clutter it gathers;
In the dirt and the clutter,
I always find something,
I’ve been searching for a while;

Life, like the back of the sofa,
Is always full of surprises,
We have to keep living, keep believing,
Keep dreaming, keep searching,
Because surprises,
And the unexpected,
Could deliver to our doorsteps,
Something we’ve been searching,
Dreaming and hoping for.

Not Out of Mind

My dear blogger,
My out of sight is not out mind,
Oh no! Far from it!
You occupy my mind daily,
As I wade through issues,
That keep attempting to bury,
My passions, my innate desire for writing-
Mozilla browser refusing to budge,
Work timelines and deadlines,
Personal issues, pensive minds,
Family and church commitments,
Oh dear dear dear me!
Oh, my dear blogger,
How can I forget the joy, the gladness,
That floods my heart when I write,
Nor that thrill, excitement and suspense,
Wondering what our daily Prompt would be;
I will keep fighting! I will keep writing!
I will keep reading, commenting and liking!
For I have just discovered that,
Being here gives me greater pleasure than my daily food.

Daily Prompt: Bury

Gossips Are Worse Than Thieves

Gossips are worse than thieves
They steal from another man-
Dignity, honour, reputation, credibility,
These are impossible to restore,
Unlike earthly physical possessions.

At the point when a man slips,
He can recover and readjust his balance,
At the point when his tongue slips,
He cannot recover his words,
He cannot readjust the damage caused,
There’s nothing to caper to, revel in or profit from,
When another man’s dignity is stolen and tarnished.

Daily Prompt: Caper

There abides three things- hope, faith, love; and the greatest of them is love

Two is better than one they say
I never knew how true
Till I met you

Love is sweet to have they say
I never knew how sweet
Till I loved you

Life is wonderful when you have
someone to share it with
I never knew how true
Till I said,
“I will share my life with you”

Poet’s Notes:
I was going through my email this morning, deleting my old mails to have more storage space on my device. I came across this poem I wrote for my husband, then fiancé, on the 18/11/2006. I was truly amazed at my words and I was greatly encouraged. This resonates with my post yesterday- The Pen. I’ve completed forgotten that I wrote a beauty like this.

I know in many years to come, I will look back at my blog and my heart would be filled with great gladness when I read my words, my books and many more things I may have penned down.
Shalom

His Great Name

Demons scamper and hide,
Principalities quiver and shake,
Our lips hum new melodies,
Our hearts revive and reignite,
At the mention of His great name,
My Refuge, my Rock, my Help
My Saviour, my Hiding Place,
Jesus.

Daily Prompt: Scamper

In The Amazon or The Pacific? Where?

Where can I go?
Where would I run to?
If I scamper down the rabbit’s hole,
Or climb the Eiffel Tower,
If I hide deep in the Amazon,
Or make a bed in the Pacific,
At the top of Mt. Everest,
Or down in the belly of a whale,
At home silently reading a book,
Or at the war fronts of Iwo Jima…

Wherever I am, whatever I face,
I know, You are there with me,
I know, I am safe, always safe,
In Your everlasting arms.

(A poem inspired by Psalms 139)

Daily Prompt: Scamper

Season of Hope: I Will Bloom

IMG_2609

So I will stand
Despite the trying times
So I will bloom
Despite the pouring rain
So I will sway
To the rhythm of the wind
So I will shine
When the sun is out
When the rain is gone
When the wind is still
No matter the rage of the rain
I will bloom

Two passengers,

img_1459

One life,
Two passengers,
The man, the woman,
Many adventures,
Forever together.

Precipitous hills,
Rocky valleys,
Perilous seas,
Peaceful shores,
Pains, joys,
Cries, laughter,
What a journey!

My best friend,
My companion,
United in heart,
United through God,
Marriage truly is
A blessed gift
From God to man

Daily Prompt: Passenger

Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their labor. For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up. Furthermore, if two lie down together they keep warm, but how can one be warm alone? And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart. (Ecclesiastes 4:9-11)

Season of Hope: Trusting You

Through these years,

I’ve learned to trust You,

Even in this season,

I’m learning to trust You,

Show me Your way,

Help me to always say,

From my heart within,

I trust You, Lord.

Two Unlike Poles… Attracted

Searching, pondering,
Where do I belong?

Then I realise,
I belong to You,

Like a magnet we are,
The sinner and the Saviour,

One notorious,
The Other Revered,

Two unlike poles,
Divinely attracted,

Drawn to each other,
By the cords of the Saviour’s love.

Daily Prompt: Magnet

Season of Hope: Give Me Wisdom

Give me wisdom,
To know what I can change,
Give me strength,
To accept what I cannot change,
Let my faith soar higher,
Than the eagle’s nest,
No matter the outcome I see.

Rainchester

IMG_2608

Pitter-patter!
So much rain!
Splash! Splash!
Wellies in the rain!
Swoosh! Swoosh!
Wipers wiping!
Umbrella! Raincoat!
Another rainy day!
It’s June! It’s summer!
But sunny rays are gone!
Manchester?
Rainchester!

Daily Prompt: Sunny

Season of Hope: His Strength is Enough

You must think I’m strong
To give me what I’m going through

I know I’m fighting to stay on
Buy my little strength is ebbing away

Everyone expects me to be strong
But I can’t hold it in much longer

So if there’s a strength You see in me
Open my understanding, help me find it

I just want to let out a scream
Not out of faith or for fear

But to release all my emotions
All my musings and brooding

To the One who cannot be broken
So He can bind me up again

Then,
I hear Matthew West on the radio
“I can do all things
Through Christ who gives me strength
I don’t have to be strong enough”

Yes, I don’t have to be strong enough
Because His strength is enough

Poet’s notes:
I’m personally going through a season of challenges and setbacks. I’m using this series- Season of Hope to unveil my thoughts and prayers to God. Let God do as He deems fit.
