Unprecedented

img_8037

Before, when I see the word “unprecedented”
I gloss over it. Just another word in the dictionary.

Today, whenever I see or hear the word “unprecedented”,
I shudder. I hope. I cry. I sing.

I pray.

The massive scale of deaths around the globe,
The ginormous extent of infected cases,
The unpredictability of this virus,
The supersonic speed of infectious spread,
Overflowing morgues, mortuaries and mobile fridges
Football stadiums and Auditoriums converted into makeshift hospitals,

This is unprecedented.

We are all divers in uncharted waters.
Strangers sun-scorched in an unknown desert,
Blind men groping helplessly in the gross darkness,
Ordinary mortal men seeking answers desperately,

This is unprecedented.

God.
Our only Lifebuoy and Rescue
Our only Compass and Guide
Our only Light and Lead
Our only Answer & Solution

It is well with us all. We will beat this.
Someday. Somehow. I know.

I know so because my Redeemer lives.
Shalom.

Press Reset

TRAFFIC is gone, LONG QUEUES are gone.

FUEL is somewhat affordable, BILLS extended.

KIDS are at home with their FAMILIES, PARENTS are home taking care of their CHILDREN.

HUSBAND and WIFE have us time.

FAST FOOD replaced by HOME COOKED MEALS, hectic SCHEDULES replaced by STILL TIME.

FAMILIES actually sit around the dinner table EACH NIGHT instead of one of them working LATE.

CHILDREN get to see how MUM AND DAD are together WORKING AS A TEAM.

The AIR seems CLEANER, the WORLD QUIETER.

I LOVE YOU is said frequently through out the day when you SIT BACK and look at what you HAVE.

PEOPLE are conscious about HYGIENE and HEALTH again.

MONEY doesn’t seem to make the WORLD GO ROUND anymore.

REALISING the small things we took for GRANTED like taking our kids TO THE PARK.

MANY OF US have realised HOW INDISPENSABLE our TEACHERS are.

And WE now have TIME, finally, to STOP and SMELL the ROSES.

It seems like this COVID-19 is a RESET BUTTON for HUMANITY!!!

A Time For Hope

You can say God is “sanitizing” the earth, you can claim God is “punishing” the sinners, call it apocalypse, call it human mistake, whatever…
Believers pls get down from your high horse of self-righteousness and self-judgement and simply show mercy, show compassion and pray for the land. This is the time for the Church to arise and make a positive impact, to help not to criticise.
Christians and non-Christians have died because of this pandemic, and I weep for non-Christians because their chance of salvation is lost forever.

What have we done to help? How fervent have we prayed? We are called to be emissaries of peace, encouragement and hope in such hopeless times, not prophets of doom. Sickness and death brings gloom and doom, let’s not do their job for them. It’s time for a counter attack with words of hope, prayer and encouragement.

The Red Horseman

img_7918

The red horseman
Wields his crimson sword
Men drop like flies
Rampaged by disease
Fear grips many
Pandemonium!
Confusion!
Pandemic!

World Economies – traumatised
Sports – paralysed
Historic sights – deserted
Gatherings – abandoned
Movements – truncated
Shoppers – panic buying

Run! Hide! Isolate!
Pray for humanity!
Pray for sanity!
The world at a stand still
Not by war nor by fire
Not by nuclear weapons

But by a virus
Spreading like wild fire
COVID-19

Getting To Know You By Heart

I have learnt to give people
The benefit of the doubt
To discover who they are
It’s always immature
And somewhat lack of insight
When we make up our minds
About people
Before we actually meet them

At times we size them up
Clothes, hair, shoes, phone, car…
And make up our minds
On how to relate with them
Without actually meeting,
Interacting or
Getting acquainted with them

God chose David
Because of his ruddy looks?
No. But because of his heart
God knew David by heart
God expects same from us

It’s a great noble virtue,
An honourable gesture
When we make effort
To look beyond the physical,
The colourful razzmatazz
And get right down to the basics
To get to know people by heart

The heart is the mirror
To who we really are

Giving

Giving.
It’s not about the gift
It’s a lot about the giver
We tend to applaud and adulate
Those who give more, but
At times we disregard
Those who gave so little
It’s human nature
A natural human tendency
But, it’s not how God intended

Jesus applauded the widow
Who gave little out of nothing
To teach us a valuable lesson
The widow desired to give
Her heart longed to give
Hence, her meagre possession
Was not a deterrent
Jesus knew she gave from
The heart, her heart only

We have to learn to thread cautiously
When we applaud gifts and givers
Every gift is important
More-so every giver
Thankfully it is God who rewards
He rewards the heart
Not the pocket
He blesses motives
Not the charismatic moves
We must learn not to judge a giver
By the measure of his gift
But by the motives and intents
Of his hidden heart

When we master this skill
We will realise how important it is
To appreciate and praise every giver
With true heart-felt words of gratitude
Despite the size of their gift

Souls Aflame

Revival
Must result to
Reform.

If not,
It is merely
An expression of
Enthusiasm,
An outburst of
Emotionalism,
And a display of
Entertainment.

We must not only
Get rid of the
Old life,
But also make
Great efforts to
Take up the
New life;

We must make Jesus
The Core,
The Crux and
The Cornerstone
Of our lives.

Revive us indeed, Lord.

Temporal Insanity

At times I’m foolish
At times, ungrateful
I go off a tangent
I walk out on You
In search of fool’s gold
Exploring my insanities
Temporarily I am my king
Temporarily I am for me

Your endless Love
In close pursuit, relentless
Many times I change
You remain the same
Forgive my temporal insanity
Lord I’m Yours
Always Yours

God Leads Us Along

Some through the waters, some through the flood
Some through the fire, but all through the blood
Some through great sorrow, but God gives a song
In the night season and all the day long
(A beautiful encouraging song by Gaither Vocal Band)

God is not after the mistakes we’ve made, nor is He interested in our past errors. He is never quick to apportion blame. He is gracious in mercy. These mistakes may cause pain, hurt and some disappointment. Tears may rain down our cheeks endlessly as we sit and ponder in the deafening silence on the outside and the great hurt we feel inside.

Therein in that pain He wants us to come to Him, no, to RUN to Him with arms wide open. To take His hand and let Him hold, comfort and lead us through it all.
Until we let Him, He cannot come in. He’s a gentle Spirit, He doesn’t demand by force.

No one may truly understand what we’re going through but we must be rest assured, God surely does. Only Him can heal, help and restore.

Only God can mend a broken heart. When that heart is given to Him.

Hold It Captive

a8c7e009-b028-4b4f-b142-01b4649be053

“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:5

Before that thought becomes an action
Before that thought settles as a mindset
Hold it captive

C- Close every door and make it a prisoner. Lock it up, and subject it to critical scrutiny and gruelling questions.

A – Agenda: Find out it’s motive, aim and agenda. What will it achieve?

P – Pass it through the fire of God’s word. Is it true, just, worthy and of good report?

T – Test it on yourself. Ask yourself- what if the tables were turned? If someone else said that or thought that about me, how would I feel?

I – Investigate: find out its true source and please ask it “WHO SENT YOU??!!”

V – Verify your findings and be objective with the results you receive.

E – Evaluate the aftermath and consequences of letting it out. Will it threaten, steal, kill and destroy or will it bring life, health and healing.

Then take the appropriate godly action. Make it obey Christ. We are always in charge of our thoughts.

What Humans Want

AC28EBF9-7DB0-4A0E-A00A-E33CE4195E62

What I wanted
Never came
What I needed
Ever present

What I yearned for
Trickled out of my hands
What I didn’t realise I needed
Tenaciously committed itself to me

Pain, loss and heartbreak
They have a way of showing us
What’s truly important and
What we really need

GOD IS.

38C17580-C860-44AC-A752-F3067D162054

Who told the stars to twinkle at night?
How did the babbling bubbly brook
Know its boundaries?
Who told Autumn to come after Summer?
Who affixed the great blue skies
Securely above, as if with a glue?

Who told the trees to breath in carbon?
And breath out oxygen?
Then who made man to breath in oxygen
And breath out carbon?

Who told the rains… the birds…

GOD IS.

X – Exercise is Exhausting #AtoZ 2018

C31A35E4-4963-4586-BC3B-8E7DA7751F18

Exercise is exhausting,
So let’s run a mile,
Let’s skip a rope,
Do some press-ups,
And work those abs,
Sweat out the fat,
And ride our bikes;
When tiredness hits,
Take a break,
There’s no denying…

Exercise is exhausting

T – Tempests Are Testimonies #AtoZ 2018

7E004D5E-4F56-43F6-9675-83026DCE19DC

It’s quite ironical how we extract motivation from situations that are unfavourable.

We switch our minds and tone our thoughts towards survival instincts. Somewhere, somehow, from within; from our faith in God and in our self-confidence, we draw unflinching strength and poise.
We turn that negative situation into rocket fuel that catapults us to new possibilities, new heights, new realms and a whole newness of oomph.

At times, we cry and ask questions, seeking answers we know may not be there. But once we get back on our feet, we emerge like butterflies, out of their cocoon, ready to face the world, ready to emphatically stand our ground firm and strong.

Through these trials, tests, tempers and tempests, we discover our passion and many a times, our problems become our life ministries. Through pain, we discover purpose. Instead of staying defeated, we arise from the ashes and convert those cries, those rejections, wasted years, pain, hurt, etc. into philanthropistic ventures.
A book, a blog, a charity, a foundation, a school, an office, a new law or political inclinations many times are born out of adverse situations.

It’s not unusual.
It’s not vague.
It’s a human thing.
We want change.
We desire change.
We seek change.

Hence, it’s a pattern worthy of note that many of us, through God can and has turned our trials, tests, tempers and tempests into testimonies and testimonials.

Emotions,
Fragments of thoughts,
Colours swirling,
Changing;
We are fighting a vortex,
A tug of war,
In furtive glances
Searching,

For sympathisers;
Alone, committed to
Choices;

Trustees of a mundane heart,
We are.

“Why?”

1C3996A5-2F0A-4A8C-A076-43FE6F121162

Children sometimes profusely asks,
“Why?”
They never get tired;
Yet, this word produces in us
A bitter taste the older we get;

Children wonder about everything
But adults wonder about specifics-
Love, pain, suffering, hope,
Adults ask and worry about tomorrow;

Sometimes, “Why?” has an answer,
Sometimes, no answer at all exists,

At such times,
Let us stop worrying
Let us start trusting;

Not worrying about tomorrow,
But trusting that our tomorrow,
Is in the safe, steady Hands of God.

Making Memories, Making Mistakes

90899EE4-970A-416F-86F5-AF51AE615DA6Sing your last songs
Dance into the night
Write your sweet poems
Let words take flight

Another year ran away,
Hear, her sister comes,
Riding fast on the wings of Hope
Many people await her coming

We cried, we danced, we loved,
We lived, we played, we fought
We believed, we prayed, we dreamt
We worked, we searched, we slept

Finally we shall sleep again tonight
To honour the last sleep of the year
To wake up to many rosy days,
Many thorny days; to wake up, alive

Finally we bid farewell to yesterday
But not to its bittersweet memories
Gallantly, we ride into the morrow,
Into the New Year, our New Hope

To do that which we always do,
Growing old and growing wiser;
Making memories, making mistakes,
Learning from them.

finally
