Hello, Are You Available?

“Hello,
Are you available?”
To help, to listen,
To lend a hand,
To someone;

Someone in need
Someone
At the precipice
Of giving up,
At the brink of
Tipping over
And falling headlong
Into the abysmal pit
Of the three Dees-

Despair
Depression
Despondency

“Hello,
Are you available?”
To help, to listen,
To lend a hand;

“Yes, I am”, you say
“But no, you are not”
I know
“How do you know?”,
You ask.

I know, because
Your eyes, your mind,
Your full attention
Are glued
To your phone,
To your gadget;

Hence,
You did not see
My sad face,
You did not see
The little tears
Running down
My cheeks;

You did not hear
When in a choked voice,
I asked,

“Hello,
Are you available?
To help, to listen
To lend a hand
To me”

Author’s notes:
The message is clear. May we not become so engrossed in our gadgets that we neglect and forget to be a blessing to the people around us.

The Pursuit of Tomorrow

In pursuit of tomorrow’s gains
We neglect today’s gifts
In pursuit of tomorrow’s beauties
We neglect today’s blessings

That which I do not have
Let me not thirst for
That which I do have
Let me be thankful for

Let not the majestic morrow I seek
Keep me from contentment today
Let not the luxurious life I seek
Keep me from truly living everyday

Daily Prompt: Pursue

A Sky for You

Sometimes when I come to work, one of the clients will tell me” I want a sky for you, a sky for you” and I’ll reply with a smile, “Thank you”. I came to work today, and he said it again, I smiled and thanked him as usual, and then, my thoughts went crazy hence this write-up.

I would want to own the sky, I mean if I do, that means I would have air rights all over the world. And so you know what that means? Every airplane, every aircraft, jetliner, helicopter, etc. would have to pay “air toll fees” to me to have access to the sky, WOW! I’ll be the richest person on earth and wouldn’t have to work again! Hahaha! Dream on dreamer, you’d say.

Anyway, my point is we may not have the sky we want, we may not have the fairytale life we planned for, we may not live in a castle like Downtown Abbey with lots of lady’s maids, butlers and footmen scurrying about like busy bees…

But we have life, we have air to breath, jobs to go to, families to laugh and fight with, friends to dance with, food to eat, beds to lay our weary heads, hands to write with, gadgets to connect with long lost friends and families, …

Rather than focus on the skies I don’t have, I’d rather focus on the floor I’m standing on. Take a minute, look around you and count your blessings, name them one by one and it will surprise you what you actually have and should be thankful to God for.

In response to the daily prompt: Sky

Where there is Life…

Life– a path of struggles that leaves you breathless, winding paths from rags to riches, from grace to grass.
Life– an endless flurries of activities from dawn to dusk, accompanied by the fleeting unstoppable time.
Life– unpredictable, erratic, impulsive and dynamic in its dealings with its earthly creatures.
Life– filled with blessings and bad days, accidents and near-misses, disappointments and disagreements, favours and flavours of circumstances.
Life– a compendium of certainties and uncertainties.
But…

Where there is life, there is hope
Where there is hope, there is a faith, there is second chance, there is optimism. Abandoned projects come alive, aspirations thrive again, opportunities avail, success is within sight, feeble knees receive strength and men dare to dream and believe again.

Where there is life, there is hope for to him that is joined to the living, there is hope. A living dog is better than a dead lion. (Ecclesiastics 9:4)

Hope
