Because I’m Different

“They laugh at me because I’m different
I laugh at them because they are all the same”

-Author unknown

I know what they will do each time
I know what they do all the time
I can predict their next move
I know how they operate
And I’m pretty sure this will end the same way
No thrills! No suspense!
No adrenaline rush! No anticipation!

Quite boring!

But I’m different
I’m unpredictable, a pack full of surprises
I try new things, I take risks,
I’ve made a lot of mistakes but I have loads of experience
They don’t know my next move
I don’t even know my next move
I’ve got to keep the suspense in the game
I’ve got to keep my opponents on their toes
Because I love the anticipation and I live for the thrill,
I love the excitement; because I’m different.

Daily Prompt: Anticipation

A Trip Down Memory Lane

I took a trip to my childhood town, just to relive some childhood memories and probably to satisfy my curiosity on what has gone on so far. To my utter surprise, the town has undergone a total transformation since I was there 19yrs ago, I was about 9yrs old then.

I parked my car in the parking lot of a mall that have now replaced Billy the Bulldog’s farmland, which used to be there before. Quite a big mall though, thronging with customers. Whatever happened to Billy the Bulldog such that his farmland wasn’t there anymore. Money problems? Death in the family? What of his family? I wondered.

As I walked down the street, the next house to Billy’s was owned by an old lovely couple, Peter and Jane. Nana Jane, as we used to call her then, used to make the best apple crumble you could ever taste. Now instead, in its place was a local bank built on the site. Opposite theirs were the houses of my childhood friends- Mimi, Luke, Stella & Sam the twins, Julie and Bobby. We were such a pack in those days, with sleepovers, birthday parties, tree-top houses as well as makeshift tents on the lawns, it was fun. Nostalgic tears bubbling up in my eyes as I stood there reminiscing. My best friend was Stella and I had a crush for her brother Sam; I’d giggle and laugh at every joke he’d said no matter how dumb it was. In place of their houses now is a local grocery store, a petrol station, a Barbershop, a newsagent, another local bank with atm services. What a line up!

Standing at where our house used to be is now a restaurant/cafe. What a transformation! I soliloquised. Well, 19yrs is pretty much a long time, why the grumble? I rationalised.

18th June, 1994

How could he forget that day? 18th June 1994. One beautiful Saturday, just like any other summery sunny day that his life took another exciting course. He travelled down South to Tessax City to spend a weekend with his beloved Alice.

On a casual stroll down the meadow, her peachy skirt glimmered in the sun as she smiled gorgeously to him; as she always does. There she was, he remembered thinking then, my sweet Southern belle glowing like a diamond in his heart. He remembers perfectly how they stopped at the top of the meadow to view the countryside, the scenery was breathtaking and they just stood still, taking in all that this priceless view could offer.

Without thinking, he suddenly said, “Alice, will you marry me?”, she turned and looked at him smiling. He turned and gazed softly into her big beautiful eyes and said again, “Alice, will you be my wife?”
She gave him such a big shy grin, hugged him so close he could perceive the Yves Saint Lauren perfume he bought for her on her birthday in March, and said, “Of course I will marry you, my dear Jamie” “I will marry you”.
In excitement, he held her around the waist and swirled her round and round screaming with utmost joy, “She said yes!! She said yes!! My southern belle said yes!!”

And today, 2 lovely girls and 1 grandson and another grandchild on the way, my Southern belle still glows like a priceless diamond in my heart like she did 22 years ago, he reminisced.

The Giant in You

Judges 6:11-12b
“And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him, and said unto him, The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour. And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the Lord be with us, why then is all this befallen us?…”

Gideon was busy complaining and been grumpy about the state of his country that he overlooked what was inside of him- the ability to be the change he was looking for. He was busy focusing on how little he was, how insignificant his family was in Israel, he underestimated his own abilities and what God can achieve through him. Later on in the story, he allowed God to work through him and he lead an army that brought great victory for his country.

No matter how everybody sees you, how you see yourself is very important. Don’t underestimate your abilities, don’t underestimate what you can achieve. You need to believe in yourself, believe that with God nothing shall be impossible. The grave, they say has the best pool of talents, for therein lies great potentials undiscovered.

What are you waiting for? If you can dream it, it’s possible. Every technological  development and every item we use today-  iPhones, Lcd televisions, blue ray DVDs, 3D movies, skyscrapers, washing machines, toasters, microwaves, laptops, cars, planes, books and bestsellers, etc etc. was once a thought in someone’s mind, then in the drawing paper, and down the lane becomes a completed project. Don’t underestimate your passions and your dreams, fuel it, ignite it and awake the giant in you for where there’s a will, there’s a way.

Dark Shadows

Dark Shadows-
Sinister, engulfing
Seemingly overpowering
Distorting objects all around you
Sending ripples through your veins
Even the lamp stand becomes an alien
You quaver and shiver under your thick quilt
With fleeting nightmares and eerie imaginations
Your heart pounding, bursting through your chest
But… the flick of the light switch said to the dark shadows
“Begone!”

The Shadow of His Presence

Deep in the cove of the Almighty
Dwells the shadow of His presence

Therein we shall hide
Therein we shall abide
And with one voice we proclaim-
The Lord our Strong Tower
The Lord our Hiding place
In Him, our confidence lies
In Him, our strength is sure

Let storm rage and the tides rise
Let the sun scorch on an arid desert land
Let the thunders strike and the rains descend
Let the wind howl on winding path
Whatever life throws our way, our song will remain

In Him, our confidence lies
In Him, our strength is sure

Heaven’s Shore- Our final Beach

Tempest and storms on seas assail
As we sail unto heaven’s shore
His grace, His Word will lead us on
Against each tide we shall prevail

How we trust our Father’s hand
To lead us all safely home
Fear not Pilgrim, do journey on
Soon on heaven’s shore we’ll stand

Holy Spirit give us strength
Sin does beckon with every tide
Draw us near towards Your side
Dark lusty waves are not our friend

Let heaven’s breeze carry us on
Let every prayer prove our course
Each heart rejoicing with praise to God
As we sail unto heaven’s shore

But Hope Rises…

Pandemonium breaks lose and screams pierce the still air. Despair springs to action and endurance is eliminated. Reasons fail the sane and all leap into abyss of blame and self-pity. Nightfall and nightmares assails the imagination.

But hope rises with the morning sun, it’s golden rays dispelling dark thoughts into the alley. Ideation rescues the bound and sets them free to believe in tomorrow, free to hope for their fairy tale ending.
