Why Worry When We Can Trust?

Why worry?

I went on my usual 4km run at our local park some days ago.
I saw a couple faithful feeding the ducks by the pond with a loaf of bread.
I saw pigeons by the side feasting on some pieces of bread.
I saw a workman trimming the trees.
I saw Spring flowers.
I saw a man walking his dog.
I saw a wriggling worm

Then this scripture resonated inside of me, “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” – Matthew 6:26-27

Ducks and pigeons
Trees and flowers
Dogs and worms
Who tends and feeds them?

If God in His wisdom and providence sends helpers to tend to these lower beings, how much more He will do us who are made in His image? How much more will He provide, protect and defend those whom He died for? So much more exceedingly abundantly above what we can ask or imagine.

Hence, I ask why worry?
Why do we worry a lot despite the fact that we know worry changes little?
Why worry when we can trust in the unfailing reliable hands of the Almighty God?
It is time to worry less and trust more
It is time to stop worrying.

Then The Rains Came

Spring is here!
But the rains came today too
It started out a sunny day
It ended up wet and rainy
And so is life

Does it mean Spring is gone?
Does it mean the sun rays are hidden forever?
Will the rain make Spring go away
For good? No
And so is life

We may set up goals, plans and projects
We were hopeful in January
We had faith, we believed
But… rain is here, in March
Set backs, disappointments, failings

It’s not time to hang up that dream
It’s not time to press that quit button
A little rain cannot stop Spring
Neither can a setback stop you
Life is in seasons; Spring, Summer…

And so is your life

East and West Continuum

It was dawn. We were watching the sun rise over the desert landscape.
Kedem,” said the teacher. “It’s Hebrew for east, a most critical direction.”
“Why?” I asked.
“The Temple of Jerusalem was built according to the kedem. It had to face the east. The altar of the sacrifice was at its easternmost end. The holy of holies was at its westernmost end. Everything else was in between. So everything in the Temple existed on an east-west continuum.

Everything that took place in the Temple took place on an east-west continuum. Most importantly, on the holiest day of the year, Yom Kippur, the sins of Israel were atoned for, removed from the people, on an east-west continuum. The high priest would offer up the sacrifice in the east, and then sprinkle the blood on the ark of the covenant in the west. He would journey back and forth on an east-west continuum. And the closing act of the day would see the sins of the people symbolically removed from the west to the east.”
“But why is that more significant than if it was a north-south continuum?”
“Because,” said the teacher, “the earth is a sphere … and it turns on its axis on an east-west continuum. Therefore, the earth has a north pole and a south pole, but no east or west pole.”
“I still don’t understand.”
“How far is the north from the south?” he asked. “Since there are two poles, the distance is limited. All north comes to an end at the North Pole. And all south ends at the South Pole. If the Temple had been built on a north-south continuum, then sin would have been removed a few thousand miles from the sinner.

But how far is the east from the west? East and west have no poles. Therefore, they never end. East and west are infinite. They go on forever. In fact, the Hebrew word for the east, kedem, also means everlasting.”
“But back then no one knew the earth was a sphere.”
God did. And all this is a shadow of the atonement of Messiah, our salvation. So in Messiah, how far does God remove your sins from you? An infinity away … an eternity away. And if you had all eternity, you could never find them again. As it is written, ‘So far has He removed our sins away from us … as far as the east is from the west.'”

The Mission: Today, take time to ponder and take in the love of God that removed your sins as far as the east is from the west – and live accordingly.

I Return

I told Him I didn’t need Him anymore
(Or so I thought)
I took all that I had
I left

He told me He will always be there for me
(I didn’t believe it)
I took all He gave me
I left

I made friends, the wrong kind
I spent money, the wrong way
I lived my life, the unholy way
Days into months, months into years
I had nothing, I had no one, but me

Destitute, hungry, ashamed and alone
Pigs became my best friends
Pig’s husks became my best food
Stuck in the depths of my sins and regrets
I realised, I knew I needed Him

I need You Lord, the Lifeline I depend on
I run back to You away from these husks
You took me back, and gave me the best
I return broken, bruised; free to be Yours
I return, to be who You made me to be
Your child

Spring Has Come

Hope springs like snowdrops
At the twilight of wintry chills
Barren trees embrace life
At the surge of gusty cool winds
Winter’s frosty touch
Gradually fades away
Outbreaks of sunshiny spells
Remind us Spring has come

Hope springs like daffodils
At the dusk of dark ensnaring paths
Faith rises to embrace Light
At the reach of redemptive Grace
Sin’s deathly grip
Unshackled from desperate souls
Outbreaks of mercy and peace
Assures us Life has come

The Rauch

He took me to an open desert plain. It was a windy day, so windy it was almost violent.

“Come,” said the teacher. He was asking me to walk against the wind’s blowing. So I did.

“What is it like to walk against the wind?” he asked.

“It’s a struggle,” I replied.

“In the language of Scripture,” he said, “the word for wind is ruach. But it has another meaning; it also means the Spirit. In Hebrew, the Holy Spirit is the Holy Wind. So what happens if you walk against the wind?”

“It creates drag. It becomes harder to walk and you get tired.”

“In the same way,” he said, “when you walk against the Spirit, it creates a drag on your life. Everything you do becomes harder. It takes more energy to do less. So when you go against His Spirit, you’re fighting against the Wind. And you can’t walk against the direction of the Wind without getting weary and worn out.”

“And what way is the direction of the Wind, the Spirit?”

“The Spirit is the Holy Spirit. Therefore, it blows in the direction of the holy, and blows against the direction of the unholy. Now try something else. Turn around and walk back, the same way you came.”

So I did. I was now walking in the direction of the wind’s blowing.

“And what was that like?” he asked.

“It was much easier,” I said.

“That’s because there was no drag,” he said. “You were walking in the direction of the wind. And the wind helped you walk. It moved you ahead. It made your walking easier. So when you walk against the wind, it creates drag. But if you turn around, then the wind gives you power. So it is with the Spirit. If you turn, if you change your course, if you repent, if you walk in the Spirit, then the drag will dissappear. Then the Spirit will empower you and will move you forward. And then everything you do, that you must do, will become easier.”

So if you walk in the Spirit,” I said, “life will go from being a drag to a breeze.”

“Yes,” said the teacher. “For those who walk in the Spirit, the Wind is at their back.”

The Mission: What part of your life is against the direction of the Spirit? Today, turn it around and start walking with the Wind at your back.

Fight For This Love

D6C94F77-C6BF-4F3F-9DD5-E494C2C68B2E

With gentle whispers
Like a lover He woos me
He draws me to His presence
Like the morning dew on delicate petals
He whispers sweet graceful words
Hope, healing and tenderness

I spend time with Him
In quiet solitude
Engrossed in His holy grail
I lose track of time
His love draws me near
I fall at His feet
Tears of joy with my alabaster

Yet I drift off on my own
I make mistakes
He warns, He calls, I don’t listen
But, He’s always there for me
His love never fails
Even when I am far far away

I will fight for this love
I will fight to stay in His love
He loves me
I know
I love Him
More than my life

I will fight for this love
I will fight to stay in His love
Ward of every distraction
Turn my gaze on Him
For my great love and God
Deserves every bit of me
And my undivided attention

Untamed Fear, Tamed

55FAB1BA-826D-4E75-875A-35AD79DD3C9A

You split the sea so I could walk right through it
You bound my fear in perfect love
You rescued me so I could shout and sing
“I am a child of God!”
(Jonathan David & Melissa Helser)

My untamed fear
Unravelled without boundaries
My broken heart
Unmended like the broken hinges of a wooden door
Your hands, like branches of an olive tree
Carries me away from the splinters that pierced within
Your love, like rivers of Arizona
Washes away the fear that breeds unbelief

I am healed
I am loved
I am not afraid
I am a child of God

Lazarus! Come forth!

When the impossibilities of our lives
Weaken our resolutions
Let the possibilities of our God
Strengthen our convictions;
When the impossibilities of our lives
Take us to our knees
Then, we are in the best place
To unleash even faith like a mustard seed
In the unlimited possibilities of our God

The Horsemen

4F79A8B5-BF4E-4C1D-B796-3FAC43D1FDA2

The tides are turning
The horsemen are coming,
That which was once afar
That has caught up at last,
Folded tools to digging holes
Folded shirts to sweaty hands,
Hardy Horsemen!
Emissaries of Strength!
Bearing hope to feeble strides!
Bearing faith to doubtful hearts!
We waited, we prayed
We believed, we planned,
Time and his horsemen are coming
Harbingers of dreams come true;

We dared to believe in God
We dared to stand and fight
We shall do our part
When Time comes
Will surely do His part, Our God

Jesus- Our Best Buddy Ever!

What a friend we have in Jesus! All our sins and griefs to bear
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer.
Oh, what peace we often forfeit! Oh, what needless pain we bear!
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

Hymn by Joseph M. Scriven

When we think of all the challenges life throws our ways;
When sickness ravages the body that the doctors and physicians are confused;
When the death of a loved one leaves us vulnerable and burdened with pain;
When despite our faith and unending prayers, the matter seems to persist;
When debts and financial crisis attempts to steal our joy;
When at the crossroads of life’s decisions we don’t know what to do;
When we are all alone struggling to keep up and there’s no one who understands; When war and terrorism attempts to bind us with fear;
When the hurt of the past stops us from moving forward;
When life comes to a halt and nothing seems to be working no matter how hard we try;
When we are in dire need of forgiveness and restoration;
When we’ve been lied to, betrayed, despised and forgotten.

In such times, we realise there’s one buddy, one friend we can count on any day, any time, anywhere.
He’s never tired or weary of us, He’s always there in good times, bad times, middle times.
He never fails and we can count on
His unending love,
His redeeming mercy,
His unfailing compassion and
HIS matchless faithfulness
To see us through the times.
No matter how we beat His chest in pain or in anger, He is never broken.
His arms are always there wrapped around us, keeping us safe and secure in Him, comforting and consoling us. And if we wipe our tears and listen closely to His heart, we will hear Him saying,
“Trust Me child, I will never leave you nor forsake you”.

Jesus, the best Buddy we can ever have!

Peace At The Crossroads

IMG_3030

Lost.
Confused.
Uncertainty looms.
Uncertain of what I want.
Uncertain of what You want, Lord.

Guide me.
Lead me.
Show me,
Your way.

You ask,
“What do you want?”
I say,
“Whatever You want, that I want,
You know me better.”
You say,
“Peace.
I give you My peace.
My peace, shall guide you, into My will.”

Peace.

Poet’s notes:
Some weeks ago, out of excitement and some great confidence in myself I took a bold step of faith and ventured into something new. It is what I want but, if it pulls through, the opportunity costs are high.
Now, I’m asking myself whether I am willing to make the sacrifice it demands. I’m really wondering what I’m doing, honestly I’m not sure. I prayed asking God for directions, to know His will and purpose concerning it. God assured my heart that I will find peace in His will. And this is truth through all the ages: when we find ourselves at crossroads, we must always remember that His peace and that unwavering deep assurance beyond understanding guards and guides us into His purpose for our lives. Amen.

Do You Have A Happy Place?

Do u have a happy place?
I have a happy place, a peaceful corner, my quiet hour with the Lord.
Sometimes I go in with a heavy mind, with all my worries, frets and struggles.

Do you know what happens in there?
Let me tell you what happens in there-
I lay all my fears and doubts in there.
I lay all my frustrations and shortcomings in there.
I entrust all my plans and hopes in His care.
I entrust all my visions and passions in His care.
I listen for His still small voice in there.
I listen for His instructions and corrections in there.
I embrace His forgiveness and mercy in there.
I embrace His grace and peace in there.

Do u have a happy place?
Do you have a happy place, a peaceful corner, a quiet hour with the Lord?
When I come out, I’m happy as a bunny, as light as a feather, no qualms.

…And That’s What We Are Fighting For

“I can’t do this anymore, Sam” Frodo Baggins said, and with a despondent and crestfallen countenance Frodo dropped his sword.
Sam looked at him and gave him an inspirational speech about how good trumps evil. He then finished the speech with the phrase, “That’s what they are holding unto”.
“What are we holding unto Sam?” asked Frodo looking intently at Sam and desperately in need of an encouraging answer.
“There is still some good left in this world, and that’s what we are fighting for“, replied his faithful friend, comrade and companion Samwise. (Scene from Lord Of The Rings: Two Tower)

There’s still some good left in this life
That’s why I keep my hopes alive
There’s still some good left in a man
No matter the extent of evil he may plan
There’s still some good left in any sad event
No matter how dismal things may appear

It’s not over until it’s over so
It’s not over until God says so
That’s the reason Christ saved us
That’s the reason Christ came for us
To show that good always trumps evil
To show that grace always trumps guilt

And that’s what we are fighting for. For if we stop fighting, if we stop believing that God’s Word is ultimate, we are simply handing the victory to the dark side. And I know that will never make things better.
