Jesus- Our Best Buddy Ever!

What a friend we have in Jesus! All our sins and griefs to bear
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer.
Oh, what peace we often forfeit! Oh, what needless pain we bear!
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

Hymn by Joseph M. Scriven

When we think of all the challenges life throws our ways;
When sickness ravages the body that the doctors and physicians are confused;
When the death of a loved one leaves us vulnerable and burdened with pain;
When despite our faith and unending prayers, the matter seems to persist;
When debts and financial crisis attempts to steal our joy;
When at the crossroads of life’s decisions we don’t know what to do;
When we are all alone struggling to keep up and there’s no one who understands; When war and terrorism attempts to bind us with fear;
When the hurt of the past stops us from moving forward;
When life comes to a halt and nothing seems to be working no matter how hard we try;
When we are in dire need of forgiveness and restoration;
When we’ve been lied to, betrayed, despised and forgotten.

In such times, we realise there’s one buddy, one friend we can count on any day, any time, anywhere.
He’s never tired or weary of us, He’s always there in good times, bad times, middle times.
He never fails and we can count on
His unending love,
His redeeming mercy,
His unfailing compassion and
HIS matchless faithfulness
To see us through the times.
No matter how we beat His chest in pain or in anger, He is never broken.
His arms are always there wrapped around us, keeping us safe and secure in Him, comforting and consoling us. And if we wipe our tears and listen closely to His heart, we will hear Him saying,
“Trust Me child, I will never leave you nor forsake you”.

Jesus, the best Buddy we can ever have!

Questions From an Inquisitive Mind

The first time you saw me
What was your first impression?
Then, you heard me speak
Did your impressions evolve?
As we danced cautiously with words,
In courteous hellos and casual talks
What impressions did you have?
Did you like what you saw in me?
Or did you concoct that exit line?
As we said our farewells
You gave me a brief glance
What were your thoughts?
What was your impressions about me?
Did I make a sweet impression in your heart?
Or was I just some strange encounter
You would rather forget with haste?
Now that we are friends
What is your impression about me?
The same as before? Or different?
Good different? Or not-so-good different?
If only I have the gift of reading people’s thoughts

Can one day with someone give you
A total impression about who they really are?

Strangers – A Final Chapter

Strangers to love
Strangers forever
A love gone and lost
A long sad road
The pretence is over
The truth is open
Our journey is over
Our roads part open
I have no regrets
I loved till the end
Our moments were sweet
Our memories to cherish
Today I bid you farewell
Today I make this toast-
Yes, strangers to love
Yet, friends forever

The Control Key (ctrl +)

IMG_2299

Some days I feel very brave and confident with myself.
Some days I feel like I can tackle life without anybody’s help.
Some days I feel like I don’t need You, Lord.

But,
I end up with errors, mistakes, mishaps.
I end up stepping on toes and hurting those I care for.
I end up confused; pondering and wondering what went wrong.

I fail to realise that I cannot do it all by myself.
I fail to realise that like the control key on a keyboard that needs a C, V, or X to complete the functions of copy, paste or cut;
I need people to fulfil my purpose on earth, and
I need You Lord to live the life I was called to live.

I’m not an island, no man is.
We all need each other to reach our goals.
We all need our different communities to execute and implement our specific life functions and assignments.

No wonder You have Your family too-
The Trinity- The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit
No wonder You “set the solitary in families”.**

Because we need each other, and
Because we need You.

“In computing, a Control key is a modifier key which, when pressed in conjunction with another key, performs a special operation (for example, Ctrl + C ); similar to the Shift key, the Control key rarely performs any function when pressed by itself.“- Wikipedia

Little Things…

Like the little frosty flakes of snow ❄️❄️
Falling helplessly from above
I fall into your arms
Helplessly, hopelessly in love

Like the little sparkly stars up high ✨
Shining, glowing in the dark
I glitter and glow
When you look into my eyes

Like the little torrential drops of rain 💦
Drizzling and drenching the earth
I am fully immersed
Drowning in your loving rein

Reminiscing About My Childhood

Out and about with play mates and friends
Cooking food with sand and empty can containers,
Role play games, hide and seek, racing and beauty contests;
With my siblings and my mum
Gathered around on the table having family funtime
While playing scrabble, ludo, monopoly
Or the card game we called “What”;
Running down the street amidst heavy downpours
Splashing, chasing, laughing while drenched;
Trips and falls, injuries and tears, empty threats and sulkings;
Boy crushes, girl fans, friendships and loyalty fights
Reconciliations amidst reluctance to apologise;
Invitations to birthdays, christenings and weddings
In smart outfits of pink lacy dresses;
Jolly adventurous trips with my playmates
Chatting, giggling, running and playing pranks
Hoping to be back home before sundown;
Cousins, aunties, uncles, friends, sleep-overs
Eavesdropping to embellished grown-up gossips;
Splashes of gifts and toys from my dad;
Dressing up in my mum’s clothes, shoes and makeup
Eager to be a grownup and “just have fun”;
Sibling fights and cuddles, school days and holidays
Eating my meal and gulping down drinks in a jiffy
In order to watch the next episode of movies and soaps-
Knight Rider, Wonder Woman, Superman, Star Wars, Danger Mouse,
The Rich Also Cry, Lady of the Rose, Cock Crows at Dawn, etc;
Sitted and hurdled around “I-know-it-all” grownups
As they shared spicy exaggerated folktales with rhyming chants
About the clever tortoise and the ever greedy lion;

The list goes on and on and on, memories of my childhood is sweet, and very endearing…

But one there is one thing I don’t miss about my childhood-
Being told to stop watching the television and go bed
Because the next day was school!

Nevertheless, I wouldn’t trade all these memories for anything less and I do hope I give my children something sweeter and better.💝💝

Some Day, Some Time, Somewhere…

Some day you will wake up and say,
“I’m glad I started that task that day” or,
“I wish I had started that project that day”.
Some day you will wake up and say,
“I’m glad I gave it my best shot”or,
“I wish I gave it a try”.
Some day you will wake up and say,
“I’m glad I let her know how I felt towards her”, or
“I wish I let her know how I felt towards her”.
Some day you will wake up and say,
“I’m glad I took that opportunity”, or
“I wish I took that opportunity to live, to love, to cry, to laugh, to forgive, to make out time, to endure, to be a friend, to be friendly, to take a risk, to try something new, to challenge myself, to be better, to push the boundaries, to make mistakes and start again, to be the best, to fulfill my dreams…”

Some day, some time, somewhere… we will wake up to have regrets or rejoicing, to reminisce with contentment or contrition. Whichever the case, whatever we face would be a consequential result of the actions we take today.

Guess What Soup

Two friends went into a diner to eat. They decided, amongst other things, to order a bowl of soup each. To their surprise, there was no specific named soup on the menu list. Instead of the usual “tomato soup” or “cream of mushroom”, what they saw was “Guess What Soup”. This spurred up their curiosity and they decided to leap in and go for it.
Some minutes later when they tasted the soup, although they realised it was probably some form of vegetable soup, it lived up to their expectations and was worth the venture. They probably would not have gone for the soup if it was labelled and spelled out on the menu list.

In life, we tend to react and behave towards others based on the tag or label others have placed on them. Also, we ourselves, tag and label people based on some exterior perceptions we have surmised for ourselves which may be quite far from the truth.
We hardly have time or even make out time to find out for ourselves who these people really are, why they act they way they do and what’s inside of them.

We must learn to discard these pre-judged labels and just get to know someone better. We must learn to give everyone the benefit of the doubt until the contrary is proven. Most times when we do, we find out that just like that “Guess What Soup”, some people are made of better inner qualities than we give them credit for.

Hold Me Gently

Draw me deeper,
Hold me stronger,

I tend to slip,
When I think I’m standing.

Don’t be fierce,
Don’t be harsh,
Hold me gently;

I tend to break,
When I think I’m strong.

I’ll stand with you,
If you hold my hand.

Don’t be mad,
Don’t belittle,
Treat me gently;

My steps are sure,
If you take the lead.

My heart beats stronger,
When you come for me.

Toni Robinson #2- It’s Complicated.

Toni: “My love life, kind of a mess.”
Wilson: “Then clean up the mess.”
Toni: “You won’t understand.”
Wilson: “Let me the judge of that.”
Toni: “It’s complicated.”
Wilson: “How complicated?”
Toni: “It’s a long story.”
Wilson: “I’ve got all day.”
Toni: (Silence, contemplation)
Wilson: (Silence, expectation)
Toni: “I’ll tell you one day.”
Wilson: “One day could be any day.”
Toni: (Silence, contemplation)
Wilson: “Let me help you untangle the knots.”
Toni: “Don’t push it.”
Wilson: “Toni, I want to help you, I want to be there for you, I know we were friends in high school, but now you are more than a friend to me. From that day that fate brought us back together at the train station, I knew I didn’t want to be separated from you again.”
Toni: (Silence, shock, utter amazement)
Wilson: Looking into her eyes said, “I know it’s just been about 1 month since that day but… I know… I’m in love with you Toni.”
Toni: (Silence, blushing, smiling, tear-filled eyes)
Wilson: (Silence, smiling back with admiration)
Toni: “I love you too, Wilson”, she whispered softly.

My little friends – Lulu and Levana

My morning for the next couple of days will be, this beautiful courtyard sitting  beside a Catholic Church building, as we begin a short holiday in the little town of Dundee, Scotland.

Chatting with me are these twin scare crow sisters- Lulu and Levana, standing on a potted plant smiling cheerfully.

Today, the heavens are spitting down little drops of rain and the air is cool and soothing. Well, I hope to make the best out of the day… Madainn mhath! (Good morning!)

I Dream

Peace radiated the whole earth
Like the rays of a golden sunset
Joy, filled the hearts of men
Like the bubbles of the ocean waves
Love overwhelmed mankind
Like the pure love of a parent
Friends, neighbours walking hand in hand
Nations in perfect harmony
Violence was unemployed
Hatred was on exile
Death lost his battle
Sadness, completely forgotten
I saw, I beheld, I rejoiced
I woke up, I yawned and stretched-
Alas! It was but a dream!

And So What?

You won the Nobel Prize, yes and so what?
You drive a Rolls Royce, yes, what about it?
You’re richer than the Queen, yes and so what?
You own a house in Monaco, yes and so what?
You only travel in your private jet, yes, what about it?
Your figure is more size zero than Posh, and so what?
Your clothes are only custom made, yes and so what?
You’ve travelled all around the world, yes and so what?
You own shoes more than Imelda Marcus, yes and so what?
You graduated from Cambridge University, yes, and so what?
You only eat specially prepared exotic foods, yes and so what?
You have 10million followers on social media, yes , and so what?
You have the latest iPhone, iMac, Samsung Galaxy, yes and so what?

My Point: The physical possessions you treasure is in another person’s trash can. Today’s beauty is discarded tomorrow when another beauty is discovered which ends in the trash when another beauty is uncovered,… and the circle continues. Life is not measured by abundance of the things we possess but by the number of people whose lives changed for the better because we cared enough to help.
So get off your high horse, go out in the sun now it’s here, loosen up, have a laugh and just have fun with your family and friends. Today is the first day of summerfor goodness sake!

Happy Summertime everyone!

A Trip Down Memory Lane

I took a trip to my childhood town, just to relive some childhood memories and probably to satisfy my curiosity on what has gone on so far. To my utter surprise, the town has undergone a total transformation since I was there 19yrs ago, I was about 9yrs old then.

I parked my car in the parking lot of a mall that have now replaced Billy the Bulldog’s farmland, which used to be there before. Quite a big mall though, thronging with customers. Whatever happened to Billy the Bulldog such that his farmland wasn’t there anymore. Money problems? Death in the family? What of his family? I wondered.

As I walked down the street, the next house to Billy’s was owned by an old lovely couple, Peter and Jane. Nana Jane, as we used to call her then, used to make the best apple crumble you could ever taste. Now instead, in its place was a local bank built on the site. Opposite theirs were the houses of my childhood friends- Mimi, Luke, Stella & Sam the twins, Julie and Bobby. We were such a pack in those days, with sleepovers, birthday parties, tree-top houses as well as makeshift tents on the lawns, it was fun. Nostalgic tears bubbling up in my eyes as I stood there reminiscing. My best friend was Stella and I had a crush for her brother Sam; I’d giggle and laugh at every joke he’d said no matter how dumb it was. In place of their houses now is a local grocery store, a petrol station, a Barbershop, a newsagent, another local bank with atm services. What a line up!

Standing at where our house used to be is now a restaurant/cafe. What a transformation! I soliloquised. Well, 19yrs is pretty much a long time, why the grumble? I rationalised.

When the Wind Beckons

I hear its voice calling
The voice of the wind calling

“Come away with me, child
Soar with me thy gentle guide
Let my breeze caress thy soft smooth skin
Away you would fly with a dancing spin
Let the echoes of my song fill thee with sheer delight
As you glide and skim on the wings of the wind tonight
Up above, away and beyond in distant spheres unknown
With eerie tales of giant and aliens, galaxies and clones
Come child, ride on the clouds- thy fluffy gallant steeds
They stand still, awaiting thy command O royal seed”

And off I ran into the arms of the wind not thinking twice
Lest its voice fades faster than the throw of a dice
Come along dear friend, respond to the wondrous clarion calls
When the wind beckons! When freedom calls!

Daily prompt: Smooth, Giant

Playful

Playful
Such a jolly word!
A common attribute in children
Brings humour into friendships
And happiness into the heart
Everyone having a good laugh
Jokes, smiles, having so much fun
Leaves no room for grudges
Friends are made with ease
Tensions are sure released
Playful people are always likeable
Pessimists hardly make friends
Playful
Such a happy word.
