Roses on Thorns

He who goes to pluck roses
Must get ready to be pricked

Today I trimmed the roses in my garden. Despite my best efforts to stay out the thorns’ way, I got pricked several times. Looking at them now, I can appreciate their beauty and elegance. However , I learned two valuable lessons from the task.

1. It is foolhardy to embark in a project or get involved with things without thinking of the underlying consequences. If one must succeed, we have to count the cost of what it would take to achieve our venture.

Starting something without proper evaluation of what lies ahead is the same as attempting to pluck a rose flower without due consideration to the thorns around it.

2. Roses are one of the most beautiful flowers on earth with a cool sweet fragrance. But to pick those roses is not a job for the lily-livered. You must learn how to navigate the prickly razor-sharp thorns. Hence, despite been pricked, I carried on with the job until I got my roses.

Watching them as they beautifully adorned my living room gave me so much joy and great sense of accomplishment. Even my children were ecstatic about them.

For anything worth doing, for any rose worth picking, there will always be the thorns and tussles of life. Discouragements and disappointments are bound to occur. To achieve what you set out to do, you must set your eyes on the prize. Stop at nothing, let no thorn stop you until you have your “roses”.

And when you finally achieve your goal, sit down and enjoy that awesome joy and sense of accomplishment.

Untie The Package

Big Gift

Untie the package
Live the dream
Drive through the years
Life is a gift

When the engine fails
And the brakes stop
Fix your dreams
Don’t abandon the car

And when you have done
All you need to do
Learn to sleep
When the night comes

Somehow, someway
It always gets better
When joy comes
In the morning

Achieving Your Dreams- A to Z

This week I fulfilled 2 of my target weight loss goals. To register in a gym and secondly to run the 5K distance on the treadmill. I have achieved it!!! Talk about dreams, desires and achieving your dreams. And I must say I was inspired by Urban Mile and her blogs.

It felt so so good;  I was livid with excitement and it gave my weight loss program a buff. I decided to take a picture of my running data but in my excitement, my hands mistakenly hit the emergency stop when the distance remained 0.10km. I lost all my data- pace, calories burnt, etc. I felt a tad sad. That was my first ever 5K run. I wanted to treasure and preserve the moment with a picture.

Even though it was on a treadmill, I’m happy I tackled it and achieved it. But on a brighter note, I’m still registered in the gym so I know there will be lots of 5K runs, jogs and walks many days from now.

On that note, from the month of June I will be undertaking a project. It’s called the A to Z of fulfilling your dreams. This is just a fun way to highlight simple steps we can take to achieve anactualise our dynamic aspirations.

Maybe you have reached the pinnacle of your dreams, please pop in and give us an insightful comment from your wealth of knowledge and experience. Maybe you are still gathering momentum like me, to do all the wonderful ideas popping and bubbling in your head, then stop by every other day and see what’s up.

Remember, the dreams you desire can be achieved. And by dreams I mean, every good intention in our heart to make our lifes better and to bless others in the process.

Reflections From Life #14

Sometimes goals are not met because goals are not set. Other times, goals are set but unrealistic attempts are made to reach them or routines are not strictly adhered to or simply through no fault of yours. Find out why your goals are not met then, modify and transform them into achievable goals/dreams.

The Control Key (ctrl +)

IMG_2299

Some days I feel very brave and confident with myself.
Some days I feel like I can tackle life without anybody’s help.
Some days I feel like I don’t need You, Lord.

But,
I end up with errors, mistakes, mishaps.
I end up stepping on toes and hurting those I care for.
I end up confused; pondering and wondering what went wrong.

I fail to realise that I cannot do it all by myself.
I fail to realise that like the control key on a keyboard that needs a C, V, or X to complete the functions of copy, paste or cut;
I need people to fulfil my purpose on earth, and
I need You Lord to live the life I was called to live.

I’m not an island, no man is.
We all need each other to reach our goals.
We all need our different communities to execute and implement our specific life functions and assignments.

No wonder You have Your family too-
The Trinity- The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit
No wonder You “set the solitary in families”.**

Because we need each other, and
Because we need You.

“In computing, a Control key is a modifier key which, when pressed in conjunction with another key, performs a special operation (for example, Ctrl + C ); similar to the Shift key, the Control key rarely performs any function when pressed by itself.“- Wikipedia
