Faith or Fear

They didn’t cry
Neither did they fret
They didn’t blame each other
They supported each other
Doubt and fear lurked at every corner
The dark cell magnified their situation
Death was just hours away;
Their backs against the wall
Their faith was tested to the very limit
Paul and Silas were helpless in themselves
Yet they trusted in the Lord
As their faith stood strong,
Hymns and prayers was all they had
And that was all they gave to Him

Suddenly, the prison doors flew open
Every chain fell to the ground
And God gave them victory!

In this dark hour
When all hope and help seems lost
And your faith is extremely tried
What do you have to give
To the Breaker of Chains?
What will you do?
What will you give in to?
Faith or fear?

(See Acts 16:25-34)

Stand Up & Fight

A life worth living
Is a life worth fighting for
Don’t be afraid you will lose the fight
Don’t be afraid of the fight
Don’t be afraid of failing
But
Be terrified of never trying
Be terrified of the regrets of
“What would have happened if I tried?”

Martin Luther King Jnr fought
Martin Luther the Reformist fought
Mose fought
David fought
Peter fought
The early Church fought
Jesus Christ died fighting

They all fought, some died fighting and some didn’t. But they fought for what they believed in and they all won even though some of them were not around to see the results of their fight.

Don’t be afraid to fight!

Don’t run away from the fight because others did.
Don’t back down because others failed.
Your storyline is different and your end would likely be different. But how would you know what the end holds if you back down now and quit.

So fight!
Fight for your dreams, for your health,
Fight for your family, for your children.
Fight for your career, for your future.
Fight for your life!
Don’t give in to fear.

My story
I have been afraid to fail again because I failed twice.
I have been afraid to try because of my past mistakes.
My fear crippled me and held me bound.
Then I asked myself, how many times did Thomas Edison failed?
I will fight! I will not be afraid to fail.
I’m breaking out from this bondage of fear.
I will stand my ground!
I will stand up!
I will stand firm!
And fight for what I believe, what I am passionate about because I believe it’s worth fighting for! And I know who I am!

“I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a Child of God” (Jonathan & Melissa Helser)

One With You

Lead me
Through the doorway
Along
Narrow corridors
Of the King’s pathway
Plant my feet
On Calvary Hill
Where Love
Kissed Mercy
Set my gaze
On Your holy Face
Your peace
Enshrouding
My longing heart
Speak with me
In a still small Voice
Make me one
With Your heart

Souls Aflame

Revival
Must result to
Reform.

If not,
It is merely
An expression of
Enthusiasm,
An outburst of
Emotionalism,
And a display of
Entertainment.

We must not only
Get rid of the
Old life,
But also make
Great efforts to
Take up the
New life;

We must make Jesus
The Core,
The Crux and
The Cornerstone
Of our lives.

Revive us indeed, Lord.

Faithful Father

God’s faithfulness in my past
What a sure testimony!
A constant reminder!
Need not be perturbed
Of what the future holds
He is always faithful
He never changes!
Through every season
Through every pathway
Even when I forget how faithful He is
His faithfulness shines through
His Word prevails

Faithful You were, yesterday
Faithful You are, today
Faithful You will be, tomorrow
Faithful always You will be

Temporal Insanity

At times I’m foolish
At times, ungrateful
I go off a tangent
I walk out on You
In search of fool’s gold
Exploring my insanities
Temporarily I am my king
Temporarily I am for me

Your endless Love
In close pursuit, relentless
Many times I change
You remain the same
Forgive my temporal insanity
Lord I’m Yours
Always Yours

Why Worry When We Can Trust?

Why worry?

I went on my usual 4km run at our local park some days ago.
I saw a couple faithful feeding the ducks by the pond with a loaf of bread.
I saw pigeons by the side feasting on some pieces of bread.
I saw a workman trimming the trees.
I saw Spring flowers.
I saw a man walking his dog.
I saw a wriggling worm

Then this scripture resonated inside of me, “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” – Matthew 6:26-27

Ducks and pigeons
Trees and flowers
Dogs and worms
Who tends and feeds them?

If God in His wisdom and providence sends helpers to tend to these lower beings, how much more He will do us who are made in His image? How much more will He provide, protect and defend those whom He died for? So much more exceedingly abundantly above what we can ask or imagine.

Hence, I ask why worry?
Why do we worry a lot despite the fact that we know worry changes little?
Why worry when we can trust in the unfailing reliable hands of the Almighty God?
It is time to worry less and trust more
It is time to stop worrying.

I Return

I told Him I didn’t need Him anymore
(Or so I thought)
I took all that I had
I left

He told me He will always be there for me
(I didn’t believe it)
I took all He gave me
I left

I made friends, the wrong kind
I spent money, the wrong way
I lived my life, the unholy way
Days into months, months into years
I had nothing, I had no one, but me

Destitute, hungry, ashamed and alone
Pigs became my best friends
Pig’s husks became my best food
Stuck in the depths of my sins and regrets
I realised, I knew I needed Him

I need You Lord, the Lifeline I depend on
I run back to You away from these husks
You took me back, and gave me the best
I return broken, bruised; free to be Yours
I return, to be who You made me to be
Your child

Listen To Our Hearts

I’m not one to lack what to say most times and I like people who are bold to say their mind and speak up. In fact my husband asked me one day, do I have to have an opinion about everything?😀

But sometimes I do lack words. At such times I get tired, tongue-tied and helpless before God. I just keep quiet and listen to music. I play one particular song endearing to my heart continuously and repeatedly for a long time, sometimes through out the day while I go deep into the spirit of the song. There I open my heart and communicate with God through that song. I just let my heart do the talking to the only One who can understand it.

Sometimes a few tears roll down, a few words as I just soak in the presence of God through the music. During these times, I’m not really in a talking mood because my whole mind is in that song. And as God speaks I respond. When I’m finished, when the experience comes to an end, I return to my usual dailies broken, healed, happy and greatly strengthened by God. I return a changed person.

I totally and unreservedly enjoy music, it is one medium through which God has spoken to me on several occasions. I love music and I listen to every single word, every sound, beat or drum in the music. I dissect the music and just enjoy the wonders of how each instrument, each ad-lib and each chorus harmonises into a great song. I try to understand the deep meaning behind the words, the rise and falls, the tone of the hunger and thirst for God in the voice of the singer. It’s a powerful tool that needs to be harnessed well when in the hands of the right person.

There are a couple of songs that takes me deep into this experience. This powerfully worded song by United Pursuit is one of them. (Check my previous post here). Check it there and let it draw you closer to God.

Finally, God speaks through so many things around us if we open our hearts and listen. For me, music is one of those ways.

“So listen to our hearts
Hear our spirits sing
A song of praise that flows
From those You have redeemed
We will use the words we know
To tell You what an awesome God You are
But words are not enough
To tell You of out love
So listen to our hearts”

When I Fall

When I fall I let myself go
When I cry I don’t hold back
When I dance I am free
At Your feet, Your rest is mine

You catch me when I fall
You hold me when I cry
You lift me when I dance
At Your feet, Your peace is mine

You are my Shield
You are my Great Comforter
(You comfort me like no one ever does)
You are my Saviour
At Your feet, I am home

God Leads Us Along

Some through the waters, some through the flood
Some through the fire, but all through the blood
Some through great sorrow, but God gives a song
In the night season and all the day long
(A beautiful encouraging song by Gaither Vocal Band)

God is not after the mistakes we’ve made, nor is He interested in our past errors. He is never quick to apportion blame. He is gracious in mercy. These mistakes may cause pain, hurt and some disappointment. Tears may rain down our cheeks endlessly as we sit and ponder in the deafening silence on the outside and the great hurt we feel inside.

Therein in that pain He wants us to come to Him, no, to RUN to Him with arms wide open. To take His hand and let Him hold, comfort and lead us through it all.
Until we let Him, He cannot come in. He’s a gentle Spirit, He doesn’t demand by force.

No one may truly understand what we’re going through but we must be rest assured, God surely does. Only Him can heal, help and restore.

Only God can mend a broken heart. When that heart is given to Him.

Don’t Worry Yourself At All

328F1DCC-581C-4315-B63C-5266A8F066F9

A random lady met me this evening and said, “Don’t worry yourself at all.”

For the sake of confidentiality, I will not mention some facts. But suffice it to say, she sees me every week, she rarely knows much about me, she lights up when she sees me, she calls me “Maureen” and she likes talking about so many little things. A happy cheerful lady she always is.

Anyway I met her today and of course she was talking about the weather, about this and that. I just listened like I always do. In the midst of her chatter, she suddenly said to me, “Don’t worry yourself at all.” I laughed and was really surprised to say the least. But… I was touched. It was some calm reassuring words from the least expected. It made me happy.

Has it ever happened to you? Receiving help, healing, a word of encouragement, strength or support from the least expected? I bet it has.

And you know, that’s one of the dynamics of following God. Sometimes God speaks or even sends help through the least expected, through the people we look down upon and feel they’ve got nothing to give.

God spoke through a donkey to Balam and God had to open his eyes for him to understand what was going on.

We have to learn to listen to everyone, it is a mark of great humility and a willing heart when we allow God to speak to us through any means He seems appropriate. Most times we may lose a destiny helper or a blessing because we are waiting for God to speak in a loud bang of miracles and visions. God may still help us through another means but that may take longer than we anticipated. We must stop limiting God and His power. If we say we trust God, then we have to prove it and open our hearts to him rather than be selective hearers.

God can change our lives, our thoughts and our narrowed perceptions through any means he deems fit. But most times through the least expected. Through those we don’t regard much or even those we feel we are better than. All we need to do is to prayerfully ask God to confirm it if He is the one speaking. If we open our hearts to Him, He certainly will respond.

And tonight, I will not worry at all. God has got my back.

“Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. 1 Cor 12:27”

The Rauch

He took me to an open desert plain. It was a windy day, so windy it was almost violent.

“Come,” said the teacher. He was asking me to walk against the wind’s blowing. So I did.

“What is it like to walk against the wind?” he asked.

“It’s a struggle,” I replied.

“In the language of Scripture,” he said, “the word for wind is ruach. But it has another meaning; it also means the Spirit. In Hebrew, the Holy Spirit is the Holy Wind. So what happens if you walk against the wind?”

“It creates drag. It becomes harder to walk and you get tired.”

“In the same way,” he said, “when you walk against the Spirit, it creates a drag on your life. Everything you do becomes harder. It takes more energy to do less. So when you go against His Spirit, you’re fighting against the Wind. And you can’t walk against the direction of the Wind without getting weary and worn out.”

“And what way is the direction of the Wind, the Spirit?”

“The Spirit is the Holy Spirit. Therefore, it blows in the direction of the holy, and blows against the direction of the unholy. Now try something else. Turn around and walk back, the same way you came.”

So I did. I was now walking in the direction of the wind’s blowing.

“And what was that like?” he asked.

“It was much easier,” I said.

“That’s because there was no drag,” he said. “You were walking in the direction of the wind. And the wind helped you walk. It moved you ahead. It made your walking easier. So when you walk against the wind, it creates drag. But if you turn around, then the wind gives you power. So it is with the Spirit. If you turn, if you change your course, if you repent, if you walk in the Spirit, then the drag will dissappear. Then the Spirit will empower you and will move you forward. And then everything you do, that you must do, will become easier.”

So if you walk in the Spirit,” I said, “life will go from being a drag to a breeze.”

“Yes,” said the teacher. “For those who walk in the Spirit, the Wind is at their back.”

The Mission: What part of your life is against the direction of the Spirit? Today, turn it around and start walking with the Wind at your back.

Infinity In A Jar

754DCE80-7F3F-42C4-B81D-5F9594A76E7A

Below is a great little inspirational story. It’s one of many great stories I’ve ever read.

It was morning. The teacher came to my room holding a little clay jar.
“A question,” he said. “Can that which is little contain that which is big?”
“No,” I answered.
“Can that which is finite encompass that which is infinite?”
“No,” I said again.
“But it can,” he replied.
“How?”
He lifted the jar and removed the cap from its top.
“It can,” he said. “It can if it’s an open vessel. An open vessel has no limitations. It now can contain the blowing of the wind or the outpouring of the rain. It could even contain the flowing of a river.”
“It would take a long time to contain a river.”
“It could take forever, but the principle is the same.”
“And the reason you’re showing me this…”
“Which is larger, that which you know or that which you don’t know?”
“That which I don’t know, I would think.”
“So then, it’s only wise that you seek that which you don’t know.”
“I guess.”
“But how do you contain that which is bigger than you … that which is bigger than your ability to comprehend?”
“By becoming an open vessel,” I said.
“Yes,” said the teacher. “Only by opening yourself up can you come to know that which you don’t already know. And only by becoming an open vessel can you contain that which is greater than yourself. The truth is always greater than our knowing. Your mind and heart are finite clay jars. But the truth has no end. God has no end. The Eternal is infinite … always flowing.”
“Like the river,” I said.
“Yes,” he said, “but when the jar opens itself, it becomes unlimited. It can contain the waters of the river…

So open now your mind, your heart, and your life. For it is only the open vessel and an open heart that can contain the infinity of God.”

Fight For This Love

D6C94F77-C6BF-4F3F-9DD5-E494C2C68B2E

With gentle whispers
Like a lover He woos me
He draws me to His presence
Like the morning dew on delicate petals
He whispers sweet graceful words
Hope, healing and tenderness

I spend time with Him
In quiet solitude
Engrossed in His holy grail
I lose track of time
His love draws me near
I fall at His feet
Tears of joy with my alabaster

Yet I drift off on my own
I make mistakes
He warns, He calls, I don’t listen
But, He’s always there for me
His love never fails
Even when I am far far away

I will fight for this love
I will fight to stay in His love
He loves me
I know
I love Him
More than my life

I will fight for this love
I will fight to stay in His love
Ward of every distraction
Turn my gaze on Him
For my great love and God
Deserves every bit of me
And my undivided attention

Untamed Fear, Tamed

55FAB1BA-826D-4E75-875A-35AD79DD3C9A

You split the sea so I could walk right through it
You bound my fear in perfect love
You rescued me so I could shout and sing
“I am a child of God!”
(Jonathan David & Melissa Helser)

My untamed fear
Unravelled without boundaries
My broken heart
Unmended like the broken hinges of a wooden door
Your hands, like branches of an olive tree
Carries me away from the splinters that pierced within
Your love, like rivers of Arizona
Washes away the fear that breeds unbelief

I am healed
I am loved
I am not afraid
I am a child of God
