Jesus- Our Best Buddy Ever!

What a friend we have in Jesus! All our sins and griefs to bear
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer.
Oh, what peace we often forfeit! Oh, what needless pain we bear!
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

Hymn by Joseph M. Scriven

When we think of all the challenges life throws our ways;
When sickness ravages the body that the doctors and physicians are confused;
When the death of a loved one leaves us vulnerable and burdened with pain;
When despite our faith and unending prayers, the matter seems to persist;
When debts and financial crisis attempts to steal our joy;
When at the crossroads of life’s decisions we don’t know what to do;
When we are all alone struggling to keep up and there’s no one who understands; When war and terrorism attempts to bind us with fear;
When the hurt of the past stops us from moving forward;
When life comes to a halt and nothing seems to be working no matter how hard we try;
When we are in dire need of forgiveness and restoration;
When we’ve been lied to, betrayed, despised and forgotten.

In such times, we realise there’s one buddy, one friend we can count on any day, any time, anywhere.
He’s never tired or weary of us, He’s always there in good times, bad times, middle times.
He never fails and we can count on
His unending love,
His redeeming mercy,
His unfailing compassion and
HIS matchless faithfulness
To see us through the times.
No matter how we beat His chest in pain or in anger, He is never broken.
His arms are always there wrapped around us, keeping us safe and secure in Him, comforting and consoling us. And if we wipe our tears and listen closely to His heart, we will hear Him saying,
“Trust Me child, I will never leave you nor forsake you”.

Jesus, the best Buddy we can ever have!

My Manchester- Together We Stand

Mayhem broke loose, youngsters crying
Families desperate for answers, for help
The injured smeared in blood; in pain, and helpless;
My city in shock, confusion and disarray
Bodies scattered, life oozing out sadly so
Emergency services in frantic redemptive scurries
Eyewitnesses recounting the horror

Don’t go to school, there may a suicide attack
Don’t go to church, there may a suicide attack
Don’t go to a concert…
Don’t go to a football match…
Don’t go to town…
Don’t go to the mall…
Don’t go to the work…
Don’t go to anywhere… there may a suicide attack
We must not allow ourselves to live in fear
Fear leads to bondage and unhealthy distrust

A war of twisted ideologies and religious fanaticism
Undermining our usual way of living and existence
How do you combat such extremism and radicalism?
How do you fight such war?
How?

At 12:50am this morning, I got a distant call from one of our family friends in Nigeria, he called to make sure we were safe. I was confused, and asked him why he asked. He said, “There’s been an attack on Manchester it’s on the news”. I tuned on BBC News and witnessed the terror as shock spread across my face and tears welled up my eyes. Young children screaming in panic, parents searching for their children… all these was happening in my town.

How do we wage war on twisted ideologies? It’s a mind game. How do you know what people are thinking about? And sometimes like this one, it’s calculated, planned and purposely executed. How do you prevent such attacks?

As you read this, please remember our city in your prayers. In the words of our Mayor Andy Burnham, “We are grieving, we are strong, we are together.”

God bless you! God bless Manchester! God bless the United Kingdom!

Lighting The Candle of Hope

He cleared some old papers
From his desk
A blue paper fell off
He picked it, and opened it;
It was a drawing
One of his daughter’s drawings
Tears welled up his eyes
As he held the paper
Close to his chest
Lips trembling, heart aching
Heart yearning

“I’m not ready
To say my final goodbye
Because
I’m still waiting
For you
To open that door
And say
Daddy, I’m home”

He knew he would
Run ten thousand miles
Walk to the ends of the earth
Do everything, anything possible
If that would bring
Daddy’s little girl
Home
Alive and well

The worst nightmare for any family is to lose a child through kidnapping. It’s a nightmare worse than death no one would wish for their worst enemy. The uncertainty, the regrets, the should haves and would haves; such a burden is too heavy for anyone to bear.

I’m lighting this candle of hope, praying for families like the family of Madeleine Mccann who turned 14yrs yesterday the May 12th. Join me and say a quiet prayer that the good and merciful Lord will bring their lost children home safely. Amen.

May the dreams, desires and hopes of these families in pain be a reality, may it be achieved; for every dream we desire and aspire for can be achieved, Amen.

…And That’s What We Are Fighting For

“I can’t do this anymore, Sam” Frodo Baggins said, and with a despondent and crestfallen countenance Frodo dropped his sword.
Sam looked at him and gave him an inspirational speech about how good trumps evil. He then finished the speech with the phrase, “That’s what they are holding unto”.
“What are we holding unto Sam?” asked Frodo looking intently at Sam and desperately in need of an encouraging answer.
“There is still some good left in this world, and that’s what we are fighting for“, replied his faithful friend, comrade and companion Samwise. (Scene from Lord Of The Rings: Two Tower)

There’s still some good left in this life
That’s why I keep my hopes alive
There’s still some good left in a man
No matter the extent of evil he may plan
There’s still some good left in any sad event
No matter how dismal things may appear

It’s not over until it’s over so
It’s not over until God says so
That’s the reason Christ saved us
That’s the reason Christ came for us
To show that good always trumps evil
To show that grace always trumps guilt

And that’s what we are fighting for. For if we stop fighting, if we stop believing that God’s Word is ultimate, we are simply handing the victory to the dark side. And I know that will never make things better.

Hope unleashed
Amity unbridled

Pardon unreserved

I Am A Child Of God

Below is a song that stirs ripples of praise and thanksgiving from my heart to God. It reminds me that notwithstanding any whirling of tempests, trials, temptations and tests, that I am a child of God. I will always be God’s child because His love for me is unconditional. I’m not a replacement or an afterthought, no. For He loved me and called me His child even before I was born. I am a child of God. I hope it blesses your heart too.

You unravel me, with a melody,
You surround me with a song
Of deliverance, from my enemies,
Till all my fears are gone

Chorus
I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

From my mothers womb You have chosen me
Love has called my name
I’ve been born again, into Your family
Your blood flows through my veins

Chorus
I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

(Interlude)
I am surrounded, by the arms of the Father
I am surrounded, by songs of deliverance
We’ve been liberated, from our bondage
We’re the sons and the daughters
Let us sing our freedom

(Bridge)
You split the sea so I could walk right through it
My fears were drowned in perfect love
You rescued me and I will stand and sing
I am a child of God,
I am a Child of God

Daily Prompt: Replacement

There is a God…

Maybe you can’t let go of your past,
There is a God who has already forgiven your past.

Maybe you can’t accept your present,
There is God who is always present with you.

Maybe you can’t see your future,
There is God who will give you a bright hope for the future.

Maybe your life to you has no meaning,
There is God who holds your life in His hands.

He doesn’t promise that life will be smooth,
But He promises to give you grace and strength for every phase.

Can you trust Him and release the reins of your life into His hands?
There is a God who is closer to you than your next breath.

Lean on Me, Child

Despair and despondency as you hit the peak of your worst nightmare,
You reach out in search of hope, but, you’re like the blind, groping in the dark,
Lost in blank empty thoughts, tears well up and stream down your face endlessly,
Everything you believed in and worked for has crumbled, like a pack of dominoes,
The special delicacy you once relished has lost all its sweetness to your palate,
Life in itself has become a daunting unbearable task, a dark lonely road,
You desperately search for a reason to live and carry on, but you find none.

You cry out in tears,
“Hold me close, never let me go. Let me hear Your voice, only You can save me”.

Silence.

Then, He replies,
“I’m closer to you than your next breath, I’m here for you. I will help you go through it and give you strength for every step of your journey, I will not desert you.”
“Lean on Me child and I will give you rest”.

Valued Added Type

Every product on the shelf in any grocery store is valued based on the pice and the Value Added Tax placed on it. Comparatively, every life on this earth is valued based on the price and the VAT added to it. Well, unlike the Value Added Tax from the unwelcomed tax man, mine is rather a “Value Added Type“.

The price you place on your life and the type of value you add to it depends entirely on you. As the saying goes, “how you dress is how you are addressed”; how you project your life is how the world will perceive it. Nobody is a mind reader, hence, we only react based on how you act.

If the price you place on your life is based on the notions of low esteem, low self confidence, not worth more than a farthing, just getting by, living by the penny till the next pay date, just an average person, just an ordinary fella, got nothing to give, etc. then, the type of value you will add to it will be next to nothing. You may have great talents and potentials but if you don’t see your life as worth something, you will see nothing to fight for and will lose the battle even before the war actually started.

On the contrary, if the price you place on your life is worth more than a thousand diamonds, if you know that you are unique and special, that’s there’s only one you on this whole earth, you’re the only original God made and there’s no fake or duplicates anywhere, that you are fearfully and wonderfully made by God, that you are beautiful, that you can change your community and your world, that you can make a difference in someone’s life, that someone’s victorious song depends on you, that you are a hope, a hero and an inspiration to someone; then you will make every effort to add to it the type of value it sure deserves. If you know this, you will get up and fight for your life, for your love, for your passion, for your dreams and aspirations.

By the time you have added all the necessary quality values to your life, you will become someone people love, look forward to see and to hear, someone they aspire to be like. You will have something to give back to your community, to your world. You will be a beacon of hope, of light, of courage, of faith, of love, of perseverance and of encouragement.
20 years after you’ve gone, your name would have become indelible in the sands of time and more importantly, you would still be remembered, you would still be making a great difference in the lifes of many.

Think about your life: what’s your price? What’s your Value Added Type?

Eye of the Storm (Nice, France)

As the world shudders at the horrific terrifying stomach-churning attack that happened today in Nice, France; I share this song by Ryan Stevenson in honour of all its victims and survivors. Since 9/11, peace and freedom have gradually become the fantasies of an insane man while the sane is compulsorily forced to live in fear and bondage.
May God comfort the hearts of these victims and their families at such great tragedy, Amen.

Chorus:
In the eye of the storm, You remain in control
In the middle of the war, You guard my soul
You alone are the anchor, when my sails are torn
Your love surrounds me, in the eye of the storm

When the solid ground is falling out, from underneath my feet,
Between the black skies and my red eyes, I can barely see
When I realize I’ve been sold out by my friends and my family,
I can feel the rain reminding me

(Chorus)

When my hopes and dreams are far from me, and I’m running out of faith
I see the future I pictured slowly fade away
And when the tears of pain and heartache are pouring down my face
I find my peace in Jesus’ name

(Chorus)

When the test comes in and the darkness says I’ve only got a few month left
Is like a bitter pill I’m swallowing, I can barely take a breathe
And when addiction steals my baby girl, and there’s nothing I can do
My only hope is to trust You, I trust you Lord…

(Chorus)

Oh, in the eye of, oh, in the eye of the storm
I know You’re watching me, yea, ay
When the storm is raging (when the storm is raging)
And my hope is gone (and my hope is gone, Lord)
When my flesh is failing, You’re still holding on, oh whoa

The Lord is my Shepherd
I have all that I need
He lets me rest in green meadows
He leads me beside peaceful streams
He renews my strength
He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to His Name
Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid
For You are close beside me.

When “Sorry” is Not Enough

When his heart is cold
And his love is gone
When he glees in her abuse
And enjoy its pleasures
When he hurts and humiliates her
And makes her feel so worthless
Then he sobers up and repents
Making a thousand sugar-coated promises
That he knows cannot fill any basket
Then he says “I’m sorry”
But he whips her and hurts her again
Oh dear friend, sometimes sorry is not just enough

Sorry will not stop her bleedings
Sorry will not stay his beatings
Sorry will not dry her tears
Sorry will not mend her scars
Sorry will not heal her bruised heart
Sorry will not change the marred body
Sorry will not rebuild her shattered dreams, her broken bones, her wounded pride, her lost dignity and her damaged self.
Oh dear friend, sometimes sorry is not just enough

Rise up! Oh daughter of Zion!
Weep no more! Oh child of destiny!
Reach within, and take hold of your inner zest!
For there is hope at the end of the tunnel
Hope for a happier joy-filled future
Free from the shackles and bonds of abuse
Teach your sons, tell your daughters-
“Any human that beats and abuses another human has robbed themselves the right to be called a human being.”

Daily Prompt: Rebuild

Statistics-
Domestic abuse:
* Affects 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men in their lifetime
* Leads to, on average, 2 women being murdered each week and 30 men per year
* Accounts for 16% of all violent crime (Source: Crime in England and Wales 04/05 report), however it is still the violent crime least likely to be reported to the police
* Has more repeat victims than any other crime (on average there will have been 35 assaults before a victim calls the police) (Home Office, 2002)
* Is the single most quoted reason for becoming homeless (Shelter, 2002)
* Approximately 400 people commit suicide each year who have attended hospital for domestic abuse injuries in the previous six months,
* 50% of these 400 attend hospital on the day they go on to commit suicide.

A Sky for You

Sometimes when I come to work, one of the clients will tell me” I want a sky for you, a sky for you” and I’ll reply with a smile, “Thank you”. I came to work today, and he said it again, I smiled and thanked him as usual, and then, my thoughts went crazy hence this write-up.

I would want to own the sky, I mean if I do, that means I would have air rights all over the world. And so you know what that means? Every airplane, every aircraft, jetliner, helicopter, etc. would have to pay “air toll fees” to me to have access to the sky, WOW! I’ll be the richest person on earth and wouldn’t have to work again! Hahaha! Dream on dreamer, you’d say.

Anyway, my point is we may not have the sky we want, we may not have the fairytale life we planned for, we may not live in a castle like Downtown Abbey with lots of lady’s maids, butlers and footmen scurrying about like busy bees…

But we have life, we have air to breath, jobs to go to, families to laugh and fight with, friends to dance with, food to eat, beds to lay our weary heads, hands to write with, gadgets to connect with long lost friends and families, …

Rather than focus on the skies I don’t have, I’d rather focus on the floor I’m standing on. Take a minute, look around you and count your blessings, name them one by one and it will surprise you what you actually have and should be thankful to God for.

Light Has Come!

image

Deep in the tunnels of rage
Bound in the chains of hate
Darkness surrounding like a gate
Hear the voice of the Holy One-
Light has come!

Drowning in the oceans of sin
Buried in its seabed within
Lust enslaving like a gin
Hear the voice of the Holy One-
Light has come!

Crouching in the corners of guilt
Ashamed with the depth of your filth
Hiding in the covers of your quilt
Hear the voice of the Holy One-
Light has come!

Wallowing in wounds of the past
Vowing to avenge with a blast
Pining with emotions of downcast
Hear the voice of the Holy One-
Light has come!

May the Light of the gospel shine into our hearts and draw us nearer to the Lord, Amen.

God- My Constant

Through the changing phases of my world and the different stages of life,
Through the motions of the day and the slumberings of the night,
Through the fearful forests of the unknown and the steeply stairs of the known,
Through the innocent tantrums of childhood and the rebellious times of teenagehood,
Through the lone days of spinsterhood and the busy times of parenthood,
Through the moments of painful lacks and the seasons of joyful feasts,
Through the unpredictability of life’s course and the certainty of death’s alley
Amidst the hurts, joys, heartbreaks, blessings, challenges, setbacks, disappointments, promotions, etc. etc.
I find One who is always constant, always reliable, ever faithful, ever loving, unchanging, unfailingly, no sleeping nor slumbering, all-sufficient, all-powerful, our ever present help in time of need, He never leaves us nor forsakes us,
He is the Lord our God and we can trust Him.
He is my Constant in an ever variable world.
