It’s Temporary

It’s temporary
I’ll make the best of my stay
Here

I am a tenant
A transitory tenant
In this little mansion
Called earth

Some co-tenants
Living like
It is perpetual
Forever

Other co-tenants
Ignoring everybody
Missing opportunities
To inspire

My mission:
Live well, inspire all
Die well, leave a legacy

Everyone I know
Including me
Will stroll through that door
And leave this mansion
Forever

To transcend
To a permanent place
When our tenancy
Is over
That’s a fact

Once again
It’s temporary
And
I’ll make the best of my stay
Here

Daily Prompt: Temporary

I Am Alive

Love,
Like a butterfly
Fluttering inside,
Tickling;
Thick walls of
Resentment,
Bitterness,
Anguish,
Crumbling down

Into pieces,
When I gave
Love,
A free hand, to
Heal
My wounded heart
And
To restore me
Back,
To the beautiful life
I once loved
To live,
So,
Now,
I live,
I am alive,
Because of
Love

Daily Prompt: Bitter

Reflections From Life #12

Spring. Summer. Autum. Winter. Spring. Summer. Autumn. Winter. Spring…

No situation in life is permanent. No circumstance lasts forever. Life is transient and so does the seasons of life. Pain is but for a time and so does joy. Disappointments are not everlasting and so does failure. Rather than dwell in the transient impermanent seasons of my life, make the best of whatever you face. Learn from it and add to your wealth of experience. It will soon be over and another season is fast approaching.

Life Unhindered

Faith unlocked
Love unfettered
Hope unleashed
Amity unbridled

Pardon unreserved
Kindness unchained
Goodwill released
Freedom liberated

Visions renewed
Perceptions reborn
Ideation revived
Mankind redeemed

…Life unhindered

Author’s notes:
In Christ we find faith, pardon, freedom, etc. When we unleash these to our communities, we pave the way towards man’s redemption from self-centredness and ultimately to a life unhindered, a life living in its full potentials through God..

The Olympic Champion That Persevered

I cannot stop a bird from flying over my head but I can stop it from perching on my head. I cannot stop the challenges life throws at me, but I can stop them from affecting my heart and mind with negativism and pessimistic attitude. I am not only defined by the details on my passport, I am not defined by the challenges life throws at me, but I am mostly defined by how I choose to react to these challenges.

When life throws hatred, do I choose to hate back? Or do I love?
When life throws hurts and pain, do I chose to revenge? Or do I forgive?
When life throws set backs, barriers, hurdles, walls, etc. do I choose to sit down, grumble, throw a pity party and quit? Or do I choose stand up? If I choose to stand up, I will see the Olympic spectators cheering me on to keep jumping over each hurdle, one jump at a time, till I reach the finish line?

Do I want to be a hater or lover? An avenger or a forgiver? A quitter or the Olympic Champion that persevered despite the odds?
The choice is mine- how I am reacting to the challenges of life is to a great extent how I am permitting others to define and label me.

This Is Our Creed

“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:
God was manifest in the flesh,
Justified in the Spirit,
Seen of angels,
Preached unto the Gentiles,
Believed on in the world,
Received up into glory.”
1 Timothy 3:16 KJV

To redeem man from sin
He died on the cross
Rose up the third day,
Received up into glory,
Will return once again,
Riding on the clouds,
With justice, truth and righteousness

This is our Testimony
This is our Life
This is our Faith
This is our Creed

Life

The blurry version of life
The rosy version of thoughts
Rosy with no thorns
Ups with no downs
Wins with no losses
A timeless phase of success

The blurry version of life
An utopian vision
Yes, life in Jupiter
Delusions of perfection
Happily ever after
Disney’s version of life

Aspirations of all
Realities of none

Wait…

Life
A patient Teacher
An intricate Weaver
A double sided coin
A rose with thorns
Both ups and downs
Best days and worst days
Victories and defeats

You experience and you grow
You learn and you grow
You live and you grow

Make effort, work hard
Make your own story
Create your Disney ending
We have one life
Why don’t we live it
Like kings and queens?

Remember…

Strolling down a path in the park
I am reminded of how winding life can be
Yellow beams from the setting sun
I am reminded of the brevity of time
Watching a mother cuddle her child
I am reminded of the great gracious love of God
Watching the children play hide and seek
I am reminded of how carefree my mind should be
Staring into the dark quiet sky with speckles of stars
I am reminded of how peaceful the world should be

The Unlikely Candidate

Today is an epic day in the history of America. Donald John Trump, the most unlikely candidate becomes the 45th President of USA. Permit me to say a couple of things.

I’ve come to discover that despite the email/Clinton/FBI saga, despite the acclaimed or alleged help by the Kremlin, I believe that one the reasons why he won was because he spoke out his mind. Sincerity and honesty is a trait you hardly find in politicians and the populace are fed up with politicians masking and hiding the truth.
But unlike the regular politician, he’s just an ordinary family man with no experience or exposure to politics and politicking, a businessman who decides to run for the Oval Office. And he did succeed against the odds.

Unlike the regular politician, Trump instead says it as it is. Too crude and blunt at times, he’s quite audacious in saying out loud what many are thinking in their minds but not bold enough to speak out. Even his inaugural speech, according to the media pundits, was not masked or ambiguous. It was clearly conveyed and expressed with no political jargons or rhetorical embellishments. Just to be clear, I’m not a Trump supporter but I’m a Christian and I believe America needs to restore its core Christian values. Some of his policies like abortion I agree with, but I disagree with his discriminatory tendencies. So this is just a personal observation.

Deep down inside of us we all admire people who are outspoken and are not afraid to say the truth. We don’t respond well to people who massage our egos, patronise us with sweet enticing words and hide the true state of their hearts with fake smiles and fizzy handshakes. We don’t like hypocrites, pretenders and sycophants. We usually root for the real, down-to-earth, honest-speaking ones.  As President Trump starts his job today, let’s hope that he remains true to his good promises; let’s pray he doesn’t turn into a regular politician who would do anything for a second term in office.

There is a God…

Maybe you can’t let go of your past,
There is a God who has already forgiven your past.

Maybe you can’t accept your present,
There is God who is always present with you.

Maybe you can’t see your future,
There is God who will give you a bright hope for the future.

Maybe your life to you has no meaning,
There is God who holds your life in His hands.

He doesn’t promise that life will be smooth,
But He promises to give you grace and strength for every phase.

Can you trust Him and release the reins of your life into His hands?
There is a God who is closer to you than your next breath.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus

O sacred heart of Jesus
Pure undefiled
Holy and virtuous
Loving, forgiving
Who is like Him?
O purest heart Divine
Gentle like a dove
Bears no blemish or spot
That loves humanity
But hates their iniquity

O sacred heart of Jesus
Drawing us to Him
Showing us His way
Enlighten our path
With grace and goodness
O purest heart Divine
Keep us close to You
Teach us Your love
Teach us Your life
Mould us to be like You

Guess What Soup

Two friends went into a diner to eat. They decided, amongst other things, to order a bowl of soup each. To their surprise, there was no specific named soup on the menu list. Instead of the usual “tomato soup” or “cream of mushroom”, what they saw was “Guess What Soup”. This spurred up their curiosity and they decided to leap in and go for it.
Some minutes later when they tasted the soup, although they realised it was probably some form of vegetable soup, it lived up to their expectations and was worth the venture. They probably would not have gone for the soup if it was labelled and spelled out on the menu list.

In life, we tend to react and behave towards others based on the tag or label others have placed on them. Also, we ourselves, tag and label people based on some exterior perceptions we have surmised for ourselves which may be quite far from the truth.
We hardly have time or even make out time to find out for ourselves who these people really are, why they act they way they do and what’s inside of them.

We must learn to discard these pre-judged labels and just get to know someone better. We must learn to give everyone the benefit of the doubt until the contrary is proven. Most times when we do, we find out that just like that “Guess What Soup”, some people are made of better inner qualities than we give them credit for.

Lean on Me, Child

Despair and despondency as you hit the peak of your worst nightmare,
You reach out in search of hope, but, you’re like the blind, groping in the dark,
Lost in blank empty thoughts, tears well up and stream down your face endlessly,
Everything you believed in and worked for has crumbled, like a pack of dominoes,
The special delicacy you once relished has lost all its sweetness to your palate,
Life in itself has become a daunting unbearable task, a dark lonely road,
You desperately search for a reason to live and carry on, but you find none.

You cry out in tears,
“Hold me close, never let me go. Let me hear Your voice, only You can save me”.

Silence.

Then, He replies,
“I’m closer to you than your next breath, I’m here for you. I will help you go through it and give you strength for every step of your journey, I will not desert you.”
“Lean on Me child and I will give you rest”.

Sincerity on the Test

Over the years you became friendly with a couple, Johnny and Maggie. They had no child of their own. You were very supportive to them throughout their years of pain and struggle. They finally decided and adopted a beautiful baby girl whom they totally adored and gave the best of the best.

Several donkey years down the line, at the age of 75, Johnny suffered divers severe health challenges and his life gradually deteriorated. Consequently, he spent his last years in the hospital. One particular evening, surrounded by his ageing wife Maggie, their adopted daughter Leah and her children, and you as well, Johnny was very happy and content with his loved ones around. As everyone waved jolly good byes, Johnny managed and told you to wait for some minutes.

When you came back, he said, “Ellie, please tell Maggie I’m sorry”.
“What do you mean by that, Johnny?”, you asked looking perplexed.
“Listen”, he began. “Leah is truly my daughter, I arranged for her to be adopted into my family. It was only a one night stand but I’ve lived with the guilt all these years and I want to go away in peace.” Ignoring your wide-eyed look he continued, “Her real mother was a model and didn’t want to keep her. Having Leah has been a source of untold joy to us and great pain for me. If only she came from Maggie but, I just couldn’t let her real mother remove the pregnancy. So…, I took care of all the expenses. Please, tell Maggie I’m sorry I betrayed and cheated on her sweet soul, tell her to forgive me,… and to continue to give Leah her best love”.
“But Johnny…” you said, not that you really had anything else to say but Johnny raised his hands and signalled you to stop. Then, he closed his eyes and said, “I need to rest, I’m tired. Make sure you tell Maggie this painful truth, please. I just couldn’t bear the look on her face if I’d told her myself “. With a sigh of relief, he closed his eyes to sleep.

You left his hospital bed, in a state of bewilderment and shock. Next morning, still trying to figure out how to tackle the gloomy task, your phone rang. It was Maggie. You hesitated but finally picked the phone. “Ellie”, she said, her voice sounding frail at the of the receiver, “Ellie, he’s gone. My dear Johnny is gone…” she sobbed softly. Tears streamed down your face as you realised how daunting your task will be.

If you were Ellie what will you do?
Will you be sincere with your best friend Maggie and tell her the truth in honour of a dead man’s last wish?
Or will you shield her from the truth by keeping quiet, hence not disturbing her sweet memories of her late husband and letting her mourn him peacefully?

If Only I Rule The World

Unemployment on a massive scale
Joblessness leading to social vices
Leaders preying on the led
Masses looting with impunity
Suicide pacts becoming the norm
Injustice, avarice and depraved perversions
Children abused and neglected
Politicians fibbing to claim and retain positions
The electorate desperate for a saviour
The rich are getting richer,
The poor are getting poorer
Multitudes, multitudes, living in depression

If only I am God, if only I rule the world
I will rearrange the world for sure
And swiftly reward men accordingly
But, sadly or gladly so, I’m not.

Banned from hoarding, free to give
Banned from lies, free to speak
Banned from murder, free to live
Banned from racism, free to embrace

Pins and Needles

Little things that don’t mean much are usually the things that matter most. Tiny acts of kindness, of love and care can sometimes make so much difference in relationships.
That gentle smile, that small pat on the back, the warm hug, the soft touch or peck on the cheek, those eyes that show you are understood, or just these simple words, “hello my dearest”, “I’m sorry” or “I love you”. These are just but a few.

Pins and needles do look insignificant and definitely would be lost in a sack of hay, but, they mend lots of clothes and hold great, rich fabrics together in one piece. Where would our sowing be without them? I do wonder.

Likewise, these tiny little acts of love do mend great wars, settle altercations, and hold relationships together. They are the little details that make up and complement the big picture. They are like the spices in our foods. Though unseen, yet their effects are obvious. When disregarded or neglected, they may lead to little cracks which may only be seen through God’s lens. These cracks, if not mended, will continue until suddenly there’s a complete breakdown and we begin to quote, “irreconcilable differences”.

Why do we fret, get upset and fight over these pins and needles?
Simply put: they appeal to our emotions and in a way help us realise that we are loved, we are valued, are deeply appreciated and are not taken for granted.

Daily Prompt: Tiny

Valued Added Type

Every product on the shelf in any grocery store is valued based on the pice and the Value Added Tax placed on it. Comparatively, every life on this earth is valued based on the price and the VAT added to it. Well, unlike the Value Added Tax from the unwelcomed tax man, mine is rather a “Value Added Type“.

The price you place on your life and the type of value you add to it depends entirely on you. As the saying goes, “how you dress is how you are addressed”; how you project your life is how the world will perceive it. Nobody is a mind reader, hence, we only react based on how you act.

If the price you place on your life is based on the notions of low esteem, low self confidence, not worth more than a farthing, just getting by, living by the penny till the next pay date, just an average person, just an ordinary fella, got nothing to give, etc. then, the type of value you will add to it will be next to nothing. You may have great talents and potentials but if you don’t see your life as worth something, you will see nothing to fight for and will lose the battle even before the war actually started.

On the contrary, if the price you place on your life is worth more than a thousand diamonds, if you know that you are unique and special, that’s there’s only one you on this whole earth, you’re the only original God made and there’s no fake or duplicates anywhere, that you are fearfully and wonderfully made by God, that you are beautiful, that you can change your community and your world, that you can make a difference in someone’s life, that someone’s victorious song depends on you, that you are a hope, a hero and an inspiration to someone; then you will make every effort to add to it the type of value it sure deserves. If you know this, you will get up and fight for your life, for your love, for your passion, for your dreams and aspirations.

By the time you have added all the necessary quality values to your life, you will become someone people love, look forward to see and to hear, someone they aspire to be like. You will have something to give back to your community, to your world. You will be a beacon of hope, of light, of courage, of faith, of love, of perseverance and of encouragement.
20 years after you’ve gone, your name would have become indelible in the sands of time and more importantly, you would still be remembered, you would still be making a great difference in the lifes of many.

Think about your life: what’s your price? What’s your Value Added Type?

Daily Prompt: Value
