Use It, Don’t Abuse It

While out on school run yesterday morning, I turned on my DAB radio today to my usual Christian radio. Instead of hearing a beautiful song of hope and encouragement, to my utter chagrin what I heard was “One Love” by Bob Marley. I had to quickly tune in to another the station. I also sent them an email complaining that it’s not right.

Bob Marley was never a Christian, he was always high on weeds and drugs and every other thing unbelievers got into. So I didn’t quite grasp why a UK Christian radio would be singing and broadcasting his songs to over 4 million listeners??

It only shows one thing? They don’t understand the impact of their roles as broadcasters and secondly, their Christian values should be questioned and reviewed again.

Music is a powerful instrument and when used well God is glorified. Music is not just about the song but more importantly about the artist, his life and the spirit of the song.

A Christian radio is a great opportunity to utilise the awesome power of technology to offer hope, healing, advice, help, deliverance and salvation to their innumerable number of listeners. People are suffering and going through difficult times and if they turn on a Christian radio, they should receive nothing less than hope and healing through Christ.

I see evangelists in city centres with their megaphones and loud speakers preaching and reaching out to the lost, speaking boldly about Christ to maybe 200 people. I see believers going from door to door dropping tracts and preaching about Christ. They can only reach about 20 houses in total. But a Christian radio with listener capacity of over 4 million or more is instead singing Bob Marley’s song, thereby authenticating him and his music. This is an anathema.

Where there’s no vision, no purpose, no objective anything goes and that is not the way of Christ. If you want to sing about love, there are a thousand good Christian songs readily available to portray that.

As Christians, we must always recognise that we are the light and salt of the earth. We are messengers of God’s grace, hope and love to a lost world. We must recognise that sometimes God places us in special jobs that can enable us minister to a thousand people we may never meet in our lifetime. But how we changed their lives will always be reckoned and remembered in heaven. We must recognise that role and utilise it rather than abuse it.

Remember, you’re a Christian.

Day & Night

Parallel lines
Two straight liners that never meet
No matter how extensive they run

Life within Christ v Life without Christ
Spirituality v Carnality
Light v Darkness
Day v Night
Two parallel lifes that never mix
No matter how extensive life runs

We cannot serve God and mammon
Either we are for Christ or against Him
Either we walk with Him or not
There’s no middle ground or sitting on the fence

The kingdom of God and the kingdom of Darkness
Are two parallel lines that do not mix

“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?
What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?” 2 Corinthians 6:14-15

Valued Added Type

Every product on the shelf in any grocery store is valued based on the pice and the Value Added Tax placed on it. Comparatively, every life on this earth is valued based on the price and the VAT added to it. Well, unlike the Value Added Tax from the unwelcomed tax man, mine is rather a “Value Added Type“.

The price you place on your life and the type of value you add to it depends entirely on you. As the saying goes, “how you dress is how you are addressed”; how you project your life is how the world will perceive it. Nobody is a mind reader, hence, we only react based on how you act.

If the price you place on your life is based on the notions of low esteem, low self confidence, not worth more than a farthing, just getting by, living by the penny till the next pay date, just an average person, just an ordinary fella, got nothing to give, etc. then, the type of value you will add to it will be next to nothing. You may have great talents and potentials but if you don’t see your life as worth something, you will see nothing to fight for and will lose the battle even before the war actually started.

On the contrary, if the price you place on your life is worth more than a thousand diamonds, if you know that you are unique and special, that’s there’s only one you on this whole earth, you’re the only original God made and there’s no fake or duplicates anywhere, that you are fearfully and wonderfully made by God, that you are beautiful, that you can change your community and your world, that you can make a difference in someone’s life, that someone’s victorious song depends on you, that you are a hope, a hero and an inspiration to someone; then you will make every effort to add to it the type of value it sure deserves. If you know this, you will get up and fight for your life, for your love, for your passion, for your dreams and aspirations.

By the time you have added all the necessary quality values to your life, you will become someone people love, look forward to see and to hear, someone they aspire to be like. You will have something to give back to your community, to your world. You will be a beacon of hope, of light, of courage, of faith, of love, of perseverance and of encouragement.
20 years after you’ve gone, your name would have become indelible in the sands of time and more importantly, you would still be remembered, you would still be making a great difference in the lifes of many.

Think about your life: what’s your price? What’s your Value Added Type?

Daily Prompt: Value

Light vs Darkness

Genesis 1:2-5
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

“And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep” – This is exactly what the world is facing right now. Darkness is everywhere; corruption, perverseness, inordinate affection and lust as never known before is the order of the day. Sin and darkness plagues every facet of human existence. Molestations, cruel abuses and breach of trust, dishonesty and lies, wars and WMD unleashed, terrorism and suicide bombings on every soil. Humanity is on the brink of anarchy.

“And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters”– Amidst all these, God is still there. His seemingly silence does not mean acceptance but rather “patience not willing that any should perish but that all should coume to repentance.” The Spirit of God is watching, to see what believers will do. Watching to see who will go on their knees and intercede for the nations till revival comes.

“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light”.- God dispelled the darkness by speaking forth. His Word was the answer and is the answer to the darkness we face today. His Word, His Son (John 1:1-2). Jesus is the answer for the world, the only Way that darkness and flee from our lives and all that pertains to us. He is the Light of this world. The only way, the only solution to all these headaches and heartaches we face is Jesus. When we invite and allow Him to take lead us day by day through His word, then darkness surely will flee.

“And God saw the light, that it was good:” -God saw the Light was good. Light is always good. Jesus is the true epitome of Light for He is light and in Him dwells no darkness at all. Hence he will surely be good. He only does and makes things good. No matter how the world in its perverseness tries to portray Him, He is still good. That is His nature, and when we follow in His footsteps, goodness flows through us like a river. If all the world follows Him, darkness and evil will disappear for good will surely triumph.

“And God divided the light from the darkness” – God divided the two because there’s no friendship, no connection, no relationship between light and darkness, between God and Satan. You either have one or the other. Both cannot exist in your life. You cannot serve both God the Light and Satan the father of darkness. At each point, one is always your Master. Trying to have both is to deceive ourselves. So let us as children of the Light live according to our profession.

“And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night– Note the capital letters. These are not just times of the day, they are personalities one must not trivial with. Jesus is the Light, the Day and Satan is the Darkness, the Night. We must reckon with this and be careful how we live our lifes, be careful who we obey and heed to. We are either servants to the Light or slaves to the Darkness, the choice is ours.

Who rules your life, who you obey is who your master is. May we be in word, in truth and in deed children of the Light; for the world will become a better place when all mankind submit their lifes and their hearts to the Light, to Christ.

Darkness creeps in like a thief
Subtle, sneaky like a snake
Luring gullible minds away from the light
Blinded and lost in a deep dark world
They grope about like three blind mice

But lo, the cry of a Saviour they hear
Embrace His light to free your minds
His light shines clear for you to thrive
Your sight he restores in a flick of a wave
Bid farewell to darkness and welcome The Light

Yellow Sun

Radiant sun, Oh yellow beam
Scorching rays and golden glows
Brighter, fairer, illuminating
Faster than the speed of sound
When you come, men rise to tasks
When your go, men fall to slumbers
Blazing down with scorching heat
Or behind the clouds you hide
Sought after by many and all
Yet alone you dwell up high
Till time is no more
Amazed, awed, astounded, I am

Show them the way
To honestly earn their gold

There are humble workers of lowly meagre earnings
Teach them to know
Contentment in their earnings

There are dwellers and owners living in grand palaces
Help them to show
Generosity through their palaces

City of Lights
There are sleepers in alleys, the homeless in dire hunger
Aid them to find
A home, a feast to fill their hunger

City of Lights
There are aggressors with hatred and terror to mankind
Teach them to know
Your love and peace for mankind

City of Lights
There are believers of God teaching men to depart from sin
Aid them to resist
Every temptation to sin

Light Has Come!

Deep in the tunnels of rage
Bound in the chains of hate
Darkness surrounding like a gate
Hear the voice of the Holy One-
Light has come!

Drowning in the oceans of sin
Buried in its seabed within
Lust enslaving like a gin
Hear the voice of the Holy One-
Light has come!

Crouching in the corners of guilt
Ashamed with the depth of your filth
Hiding in the covers of your quilt
Hear the voice of the Holy One-
Light has come!

Wallowing in wounds of the past
Vowing to avenge with a blast
Pining with emotions of downcast
Hear the voice of the Holy One-
Light has come!

May the Light of the gospel shine into our hearts and draw us nearer to the Lord, Amen.

My African Experience

Yes, I’m an African, no need to bore you with the details
But when I think of chaos, my lovely country comes to mind.

Imagine this-
43°C hot scorching sun burning and bearing down on your skin,
Leaving you clammy, soaked and almost drowning in your sweat
Car horns blaring your ears to deafness;
Traffic signs and lights broken down completely
With no hope for repairs,
Hence, cars blaring their way through traffic
With one traffic warden directing traffic on a cross-road??
Two or more drivers arguing with one another
Over who is at fault for the accident that just occurred,
With no insurance cover, anything can happen;
While too many public transport bikes popularly called “Okada”
Zoom past traffic so noisily, with some meandering manoeuvres

Public buses crammed with the sweaty and smelly;
Food hawkers calling out for some patronage;
Sirens blaring down the road demanding cars give way-
Sirens of the governor’s entourage not the emergency services;
People crossing roads at different angles and sides
Irrespective of the apparently busy road;
Bus conductors screaming bus stops names,
Shouting on passengersto board or alight,
As well as screaming the bus fare in their ears;
Refuse and dirt lying about here and there;
Electric generators humming outside every house and office
Due to no electric power supply, emitting poisonous gases;
Endless queues of cars and jerrycans at the petrol station
Due to shortage, scarcity and even hoarding of petrol;
Taxi driver and passenger on one corner in a heated argument
Over over-priced fare and non-payment of stipulated fare;
Now, that’s Chaos!

Some towns have achieved a certain 3rd grade sanity,
But others are still victims with no hope in sight.

Nevertheless, I still love my country warts and all
For there’s no place like home sweet home

Dark Shadows

Dark Shadows-
Sinister, engulfing
Seemingly overpowering
Distorting objects all around you
Sending ripples through your veins
Even the lamp stand becomes an alien
You quaver and shiver under your thick quilt
With fleeting nightmares and eerie imaginations
Your heart pounding, bursting through your chest
But… the flick of the light switch said to the dark shadows

…In response to our daily post word: Shadow
