Unmoored, To Set Sail

My ship I have unmoored
My valise I have packed
My old life I have left behind
My old ways I have bid farewell
Into a new life I have set sail
Into a new life with my Captain

Disentangled from the entanglements
Disconnected from the connections
That hinder my journey
I hear the sound of the wind
As it beckons and calls, “Liberty!!”

Liberty to follow my heart
Liberty to live for Christ
Liberty to follow His leading
Liberty to live, not licence

Per adventure a tempest should arise
The Master of earth, oceans and skies
He is the Captain of my ship
He is my blessed assurance

My compass?
Lord, I have none
You are my only Compass
You are my only Guide
I have no other alternative
I seek none other either

Stay Connected to God

John 15:4-5
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”

Origin: From a Latin word connectere, [from con– ‘together’ + nectere ‘bind’.].

Meaning: Bring together or into contact so that a real or notional link is established. Join together, link with, associate with …(Google dictionary)

The Bible verses above give an apt illustration of staying connected to God. Inferring from them we learn a couple of things-

“Abide in me, and I in you…”– We are enjoined to stay connected to Him, and He promises to remain so with us. It’s a clear instruction, not a suggestion or plea. Most times when we challenge God and ask “Where are You?” He never left us but we rather have drifted away from Him.

“…As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine…”;- This is a simple fact of life. A branch cannot survive on its own but a tree can survive on its own. A branch solely depends on the tree for every nutrition it needs and the ability to bear fruit.

“…no more can ye, except ye abide in me.” Likewise, we cannot achieve anything that will have eternal value except we stay connected to God. Our lives cannot bear the fruits of godliness and fulfilment of purpose except it’s connected to God.

“I am the vine, ye are the branches:” Christ is the Vine, the Tree of Life, the Source, the Origin and Originator, the Well-Spring of Living Water and the Creator. We need Him because we are the branches, the created. Our existence depends on Him and our lives would be meaningless, gradually fade away without Him.

“He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” – We are at our best when we abide in Him, when we are connected to Him. Without Him, we will not achieve much. No matter what we may physically achieve, if He’s not part of it, it has no eternal value or spiritual worth. Without Him we can do nothing except we are connected with Him.

How do we know we are connected to Him? We would have the witness of the Holy Spirit in our hearts and will be in constant relationship with Him, we will have a vibrant eagerness and hunger for the Word of God, for spiritual matters, we would experience His love in us and would be eager to share His love to others, we would have a desire to always come and abide in His Presence and to always do what He wants, we would always hear His words drop in our hearts through different means when He speaks to us, our lives would bear fruits that will remain- fruits of righteousness, character and faith.

Stay connected to God.

My Lifetime Journey…

He prayed. He sought.
He searched. I’m found.
He looked. I blushed.
He talked. I heard.
He asked. I agreed
His ring. I took.
We hugged. We talked.
We planned. We spent.
We found love. We told families.
We got married. We had babies.
We fought. We argued.
We reconciled. We kissed.
We laugh together.
We cry together.
We work together.
We eat together.
We play together.
We pray together.
Nine years together.
We still love each other.
God brought us together.
Lord, keep us together.

God- My Constant

Through the changing phases of my world and the different stages of life,
Through the motions of the day and the slumberings of the night,
Through the fearful forests of the unknown and the steeply stairs of the known,
Through the innocent tantrums of childhood and the rebellious times of teenagehood,
Through the lone days of spinsterhood and the busy times of parenthood,
Through the moments of painful lacks and the seasons of joyful feasts,
Through the unpredictability of life’s course and the certainty of death’s alley
Amidst the hurts, joys, heartbreaks, blessings, challenges, setbacks, disappointments, promotions, etc. etc.
I find One who is always constant, always reliable, ever faithful, ever loving, unchanging, unfailingly, no sleeping nor slumbering, all-sufficient, all-powerful, our ever present help in time of need, He never leaves us nor forsakes us,
He is the Lord our God and we can trust Him.
He is my Constant in an ever variable world.

Jesus- Our Best Buddy Ever!

What a friend we have in Jesus! All our sins and griefs to bear
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer.
Oh, what peace we often forfeit! Oh, what needless pain we bear!
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged, take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden? Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our Refuge, take it to the Lord in prayer!
Do your friends despise forsake you? Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In his arms he’ll take and shield you; you wilt find a solace there.

Hymn by Joseph M. Scriven

When we think of all the challenges life throws our ways; when sickness ravages the body that the doctors and physicians are confused; when the death of a loved one leaves us vulnerable and burdened with pain; when despite our faith and unending prayers, the matter seems to persist; when debts and financial crisis attempts to steal our joy; when at the crossroads of life’s decisions we don’t know what to do; when we are all alone struggling to keep up and there’s no one who understands; when war and terrorism attempts to bind us with fear; when the hurt of the past stops us from moving forward; when our life comes to a halt and nothing seems to be working no matter how hard we try; when we are in dire need of forgiveness and restoration; when we’ve been lied to, betrayed, despised and forgotten.

In such times, we realise there’s one buddy, one friend we can count on any day, any time, anywhere. He’s never tired or weary of us, He’s always there in good times, bad times, middle times. He never fails and we can count on His unending love, His redeeming mercy, His unfailing compassion and matchless faithfulness to see us through the times. No matter how we beat His chest in pain or in anger, His arms are always there wrapped around us, keeping us safe and secure in Him, comforting and consoling us. And if we wipe our tears and listen closely to His heart, we will hear Him saying, “Trust Me child, I will never leave you nor forsake you”.

Jesus, the best Buddy we can ever have!

Be Thou my Vision

“Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art;
Thou my best thought, by day or by night;
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light”

This song is a prayer, a desire for God to be our vision. For God to be all we see. For when we lose sight of God, we see the glitters of sin beckoning our lust-filled hearts, we see the ostentatious gifts of life seducing our minds, we become consumed with all our own plans and desires, we become selfish and self-centred. We may become bitter, unforgiving, proud, stubborn and sometimes foul-mouthed.

Problems become enlarged and solutions miles away. We may become hopeless, in despair and depressed, tearful and sad, blaming everybody and anybody. We may feel like the weight of the world is on our shoulders and we focus only on the things that are wrong in our lifes. Some even attempt or do commit suicide.

But when we make God our vision, when we look unto Him who is the Author and Finisher of our faith, earth’s glooms and glitters grow dim. We see who He is and who He made us to be. When we make Him our Vision, He fills us with the desire to be more like Him, we become more loving, more hopeful, content, joyful, peaceful, spirit-filled, and all that God is. His character begins to rub off on us, we discover that we are increasing in His image from day to day.

Our problems may not go away but we discover an inner strength to keep fighting, keep hoping and to keep believing that because He lives we can face of tomorrow. We find a reason to love, to live and to be a blessing to others. Even when reasons are inexplicable, we find that love, joy and peace flows regardless.

May the good Lord be our daily vision indeed, Amen.

“Lord, help us not to lose sight of You, in our waking thoughts or when asleep; and may we become more like You as we behold Your lovely face day by day, Amen.”

The Shadow of His Presence

Deep in the cove of the Almighty
Dwells the shadow of His presence

Therein we shall hide
Therein we shall abide
And with one voice we proclaim-
The Lord our Strong Tower
The Lord our Hiding place
In Him, our confidence lies
In Him, our strength is sure

Let storm rage and the tides rise
Let the sun scorch on an arid desert land
Let the thunders strike and the rains descend
Let the wind howl on winding path
Whatever life throws our way, our song will remain

In Him, our confidence lies
In Him, our strength is sure
Selah
