When Love Waits

Sitting here with him
In silence
Wrapped in his arms
She’s safe
He looked at her
And smiled
She looked at him
And blushed
No words exchanged
In silence
No need for words
Soul mates
They understood each other
One heart
Their hearts were one
One soul
Their souls were one
But
Their bodies
Inflamed with romantic desires
Lustful ecstasy
Would soon be in one
A few days
After their marriage vows
Such decision
Not for luck nor for fame
A noble act
In honour of their promise
To wait
To wait for the right time
A noble act
To honour their love for each other
To honour God

Sincerity on the Test

Over the years you became friendly with a couple, Johnny and Maggie. They had no child of their own. You were very supportive to them throughout their years of pain and struggle. They finally decided and adopted a beautiful baby girl whom they totally adored and gave the best of the best.

Several donkey years down the line, at the age of 75, Johnny suffered divers severe health challenges and his life gradually deteriorated. Consequently, he spent his last years in the hospital. One particular evening, surrounded by his ageing wife Maggie, their adopted daughter Leah and her children, and you as well, Johnny was very happy and content with his loved ones around. As everyone waved jolly good byes, Johnny managed and told you to wait for some minutes.

When you came back, he said, “Ellie, please tell Maggie I’m sorry”.
“What do you mean by that, Johnny?”, you asked looking perplexed.
“Listen”, he began. “Leah is truly my daughter, I arranged for her to be adopted into my family. It was only a one night stand but I’ve lived with the guilt all these years and I want to go away in peace.” Ignoring your wide-eyed look he continued, “Her real mother was a model and didn’t want to keep her. Having Leah has been a source of untold joy to us and great pain for me. If only she came from Maggie but, I just couldn’t let her real mother remove the pregnancy. So…, I took care of all the expenses. Please, tell Maggie I’m sorry I betrayed and cheated on her sweet soul, tell her to forgive me,… and to continue to give Leah her best love”.
“But Johnny…” you said, not that you really had anything else to say but Johnny raised his hands and signalled you to stop. Then, he closed his eyes and said, “I need to rest, I’m tired. Make sure you tell Maggie this painful truth, please. I just couldn’t bear the look on her face if I’d told her myself “. With a sigh of relief, he closed his eyes to sleep.

You left his hospital bed, in a state of bewilderment and shock. Next morning, still trying to figure out how to tackle the gloomy task, your phone rang. It was Maggie. You hesitated but finally picked the phone. “Ellie”, she said, her voice sounding frail at the of the receiver, “Ellie, he’s gone. My dear Johnny is gone…” she sobbed softly. Tears streamed down your face as you realised how daunting your task will be.

If you were Ellie what will you do?
Will you be sincere with your best friend Maggie and tell her the truth in honour of a dead man’s last wish?
Or will you shield her from the truth by keeping quiet, hence not disturbing her sweet memories of her late husband and letting her mourn him peacefully?

My Lifetime Journey…

He prayed. He sought.
He searched. I’m found.
He looked. I blushed.
He talked. I heard.
He asked. I agreed
His ring. I took.
We hugged. We talked.
We planned. We spent.
We found love. We told families.
We got married. We had babies.
We fought. We argued.
We reconciled. We kissed.
We laugh together.
We cry together.
We work together.
We eat together.
We play together.
We pray together.
Nine years together.
We still love each other.
God brought us together.
Lord, keep us together.

18th June, 1994

How could he forget that day? 18th June 1994. One beautiful Saturday, just like any other summery sunny day that his life took another exciting course. He travelled down South to Tessax City to spend a weekend with his beloved Alice.

On a casual stroll down the meadow, her peachy skirt glimmered in the sun as she smiled gorgeously to him; as she always does. There she was, he remembered thinking then, my sweet Southern belle glowing like a diamond in his heart. He remembers perfectly how they stopped at the top of the meadow to view the countryside, the scenery was breathtaking and they just stood still, taking in all that this priceless view could offer.

Without thinking, he suddenly said, “Alice, will you marry me?”, she turned and looked at him smiling. He turned and gazed softly into her big beautiful eyes and said again, “Alice, will you be my wife?”
She gave him such a big shy grin, hugged him so close he could perceive the Yves Saint Lauren perfume he bought for her on her birthday in March, and said, “Of course I will marry you, my dear Jamie” “I will marry you”.
In excitement, he held her around the waist and swirled her round and round screaming with utmost joy, “She said yes!! She said yes!! My southern belle said yes!!”

And today, 2 lovely girls and 1 grandson and another grandchild on the way, my Southern belle still glows like a priceless diamond in my heart like she did 22 years ago, he reminisced.

Best Buddies

A buddy is your best friend, the person you can confide in without the fear of been judged or criticised. He/she sees the best in you when no one else does and pushes you on to achieve your best. You fight, you argue, you make-up, you play and have a cheery hearty laugh. You talk about anything and everything; you are not afraid to say anything because you know your buddy will not misunderstand you. He/she knows you too well to take offence. You cry in each other’s shoulders, you pray and comfort each other, you achieve well and rejoice together.

No man is an island, hence man is a social being. We need our buddies to function well, for when our emotions cloud our judgement, our best friends/buddies objectively help us have a clear thought path, and do sometimes save us from terrible decisions. Buddies hold a special place in our hearts for there’s a special bond and closeness the two of you share that some people may not understand.

And we all love and care a lot about them, that’s why they are our buddies.

Betrayal

Betrayal-
The callousness of the perpetrator
The unfaithfulness of a partner
The tears of the broken-hearted
The gnawing pain in the heart
The disintegration of a loving unit
The devastation of loved ones
The unbearable pain at discovery
The inevitable meltdown of friendships
The breach of trust and confidence
The crush of plans and projects
The fright of the victim
The guilt of the villain
The bane of the society
Betrayal…stinks

Time-
The bruises of today becomes the scars of tomorrow
The lessons of today becomes the wisdom for tomorrow
The victims of today becomes the teachers of tomorrow

Scars, Disappointment

The Music of His Love

The sound of his voice is music to my ears,
His tender whispers of love is music to my heart,
He looks at me with unfeigned devotion,
He smiles at me with great admiration,
With the touch of his hands, I know I’m secure;
With the touch of his lips, I know I’m loved;
Melodious symphonies playing on the stereo
Wrapped in his wonderful strong arms, I am
In tune in body, heart and soul,
I’m lost in a time I wish not to end,
As we gently dance to the music of love,
I am my beloved and my beloved is mine.

A Mother’s Love

She gives up her name to answer his name
Even though some do retain their maiden names.
Still she gives up her identity somehow;
She gives up her body to bear his babies-
Passes through the inevitable popular 9 month seasons of morning sickness, bloating, constipation, body disfiguring, sleepless nights, demanding attractive partner, silly noisy adorable children, etc. etc. etc.
Which culminates into excruciating labour pains, c-sections, episiotomy, epidural, birth complications, incessant hospital visits,.. until the baby is born… Wow!
Most times, with the demands of childcare she changes her job and puts her career on hold;
She gives in her time to go to work;
She comes back from work and resumes housework/children work- cleaning and cooking, hoovering and dusting, laundry and ironing, assisting with homework, amidst scolding and shouting, loving and caring, quarrels and tantrums, stories at bedtime, hugs and kisses etc etc etc
She ends all that and then, sometimes, resumes marital conjugal duties that same night… Wow!
She hardly gets a “me, myself and I” time; and the next morning the cycle begins again!

I bet you are asking, “Why and how does she do these? What motivates her?”
As a mother, I know the reason behind this is summed up in one word- Love.
The unconditional, unconventional, dynamic, incomprehensible, sacrificial, amazing and wonderful love of a mother.

A mother’s love- the quintessential epitome of sacrifice.
