The Big Wheel

Riding high up in the sky
Watching “little” people strolling by
In tad acrophobia
We watched in silent awe
Inside the Manchester Big Wheel
What a nervy ride!

Looking down into Market Street, with Santander on the left and then Halifax and Debenhams on the right. The structure in the middle is a tram stop.

During summer in 2013, my husband and I with our then 4yr old son went for a ride on the Manchester Big Wheel in Piccadilly Gardens. It was really fun as that was my first time so high up. I manned up courage during the ride but realised I didn’t need it- I wasn’t scared. It was lovely looking down into Piccadilly Gardens/Market street from a different view. My son loved the ride as well and was not scared at all, as for my husband that was a different story altogether.

In 2014, we went to Blackpool Pier and went on the Big Wheel. I felt very confident with myself as asual but…Oh boy!!! That was way high, higher than the one in Manchester (I think), and I was very scared! I wasn’t screaming but I wasn’t taking pictures. And when I’m not taking pictures, then something is wrong. You can imagine my relief when my two feet touched the ground. We truly had a wonderful family in Blackpool, but I don’t think I would be willing to go on their Big Wheel again.

Teardrops

Teardrops from the skies
Dark clouds in loud rumblings
And creation gratifies
In a sloppy slushy caresses
Teardrops from the sky
Falling, kissing the ground
An ordinary lad passing by
To his lass, homeward bound

Daily Prompt: Ordinary

Remember…

Strolling down a path in the park
Ā I am remindedĀ of how winding life can be
Yellow beams from the setting sun
I am reminded of the brevity of time
Watching a mother cuddle her child
I am remindedĀ of the great gracious love of God
Watching the children play hide and seek
I am remindedĀ of how carefree my mind should be
Staring into the dark quiet sky with speckles of stars
I am remindedĀ of how peaceful the world should be

Daily Prompt: Yellow

Majestic One!

It soars high with pride
The King of the birds!
Dark wings flap with gusto-
The sound echoes in caves
As other birds bow in awe,
Atop the highest mountain
The majestic eagle perches on,
In a towering magnificent stance!
Exquisite!

Daily Prompt: Exquisite

A Sky for You

Sometimes when I come to work, one of the clients will tell me” I want a sky for you, a sky for you” and I’ll reply with a smile, “Thank you”. I came to work today, and he said it again, I smiled and thanked him as usual, and then, my thoughts went crazy hence this write-up.

I would want to own the sky, I mean if I do, that means I would haveĀ air rights all over the world. And so you know what that means? Every airplane, every aircraft, jetliner, helicopter, etc. would have to pay “air toll fees” to me to have access to the sky, WOW! I’ll be the richest person on earth and wouldn’t have to work again! Hahaha! Dream on dreamer, you’d say.

Anyway, my point is we may not have the sky we want, we may not have the fairytale life we planned for, we may not live in a castle like Downtown Abbey with lots of lady’s maids, butlers and footmenĀ scurrying about like busy bees…

But we have life, we have air to breath, jobs to go to, families to laugh and fight with, friends to dance with, food to eat, beds to lay our weary heads, hands to write with, gadgets to connect with long lost friends and families, …

Rather than focus on the skies I don’t have, I’d rather focus on the floor I’m standing on. Take a minute, look around you and count your blessings, name them one by one and it will surprise you what you actually have and should be thankful to God for.

Summer!

Summer!
The word summer comes with mixed feelings to her.
Sunny days, bright blue skies, flip flops, holidays at the beach side, bright coloured dresses, short skirts, sun hats, sun glasses, barbecues, parties, friends… Happy days!
But…another word for summer to her is a dreaded ailment.
Hay fever!
Constant sneezing, blocked nostrils, headaches, itchy watery eyes, tissues all over her bag, sleepless nights, drowsy days… Not so happy days!
Hence, for this purpose, her constant companion is her antihistamine tablets. It took her a while to find the right tablet that works for her; and when she discovered it, she stocked up as much as she could.
Now she can go out with her buddies and just enjoy summer, just like everybody else.

Footsteps in the Dark

The trees stood dead still and the dry yellow leaves rustled under her feet as she made her way through the path. The mourning of the wind haunted her as the evening sun bid farewell to the sky. Her heart pounded louder than the drums of a Zumba beat. The stillness and quietness of this path sent chillness to her bones. She increased her steps to move faster when…

Suddenly, she heard footsteps some distance behind her. She stopped and listened but heard nothing. It must be her fears toying with her imaginations. She carried on and there again she heard the steps, she froze with fright. “Who’s there?”, she called out, voice quavering but the only response she got was the howlings of the wind.

Adrenaline pumping through her veins, she sped off running as fast as her legs could carry her. She almost was certain she was been chased after as the rustles of the leaves behind her increased as well. Tears streamed down her face and dreadful thoughts raced through her mind. All she could mutter underneath her breath was, “Please don’t hurt me! Please don’t hurt me”… (To be continued).
