Faith or Fear

They didn’t cry
Neither did they fret
They didn’t blame each other
They supported each other
Doubt and fear lurked at every corner
The dark cell magnified their situation
Death was just hours away;
Their backs against the wall
Their faith was tested to the very limit
Paul and Silas were helpless in themselves
Yet they trusted in the Lord
As their faith stood strong,
Hymns and prayers was all they had
And that was all they gave to Him

Suddenly, the prison doors flew open
Every chain fell to the ground
And God gave them victory!

In this dark hour
When all hope and help seems lost
And your faith is extremely tried
What do you have to give
To the Breaker of Chains?
What will you do?
What will you give in to?
Faith or fear?

(See Acts 16:25-34)

Stand Up & Fight

A life worth living
Is a life worth fighting for
Don’t be afraid you will lose the fight
Don’t be afraid of the fight
Don’t be afraid of failing
But
Be terrified of never trying
Be terrified of the regrets of
“What would have happened if I tried?”

Martin Luther King Jnr fought
Martin Luther the Reformist fought
Mose fought
David fought
Peter fought
The early Church fought
Jesus Christ died fighting

They all fought, some died fighting and some didn’t. But they fought for what they believed in and they all won even though some of them were not around to see the results of their fight.

Don’t be afraid to fight!

Don’t run away from the fight because others did.
Don’t back down because others failed.
Your storyline is different and your end would likely be different. But how would you know what the end holds if you back down now and quit.

So fight!
Fight for your dreams, for your health,
Fight for your family, for your children.
Fight for your career, for your future.
Fight for your life!
Don’t give in to fear.

My story
I have been afraid to fail again because I failed twice.
I have been afraid to try because of my past mistakes.
My fear crippled me and held me bound.
Then I asked myself, how many times did Thomas Edison failed?
I will fight! I will not be afraid to fail.
I’m breaking out from this bondage of fear.
I will stand my ground!
I will stand up!
I will stand firm!
And fight for what I believe, what I am passionate about because I believe it’s worth fighting for! And I know who I am!

“I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a Child of God” (Jonathan & Melissa Helser)

Roses on Thorns

He who goes to pluck roses
Must get ready to be pricked

Today I trimmed the roses in my garden. Despite my best efforts to stay out the thorns’ way, I got pricked several times. Looking at them now, I can appreciate their beauty and elegance. However , I learned two valuable lessons from the task.

1. It is foolhardy to embark in a project or get involved with things without thinking of the underlying consequences. If one must succeed, we have to count the cost of what it would take to achieve our venture.

Starting something without proper evaluation of what lies ahead is the same as attempting to pluck a rose flower without due consideration to the thorns around it.

2. Roses are one of the most beautiful flowers on earth with a cool sweet fragrance. But to pick those roses is not a job for the lily-livered. You must learn how to navigate the prickly razor-sharp thorns. Hence, despite been pricked, I carried on with the job until I got my roses.

Watching them as they beautifully adorned my living room gave me so much joy and great sense of accomplishment. Even my children were ecstatic about them.

For anything worth doing, for any rose worth picking, there will always be the thorns and tussles of life. Discouragements and disappointments are bound to occur. To achieve what you set out to do, you must set your eyes on the prize. Stop at nothing, let no thorn stop you until you have your “roses”.

And when you finally achieve your goal, sit down and enjoy that awesome joy and sense of accomplishment.

Don’t Stop Believing

Don’t stop believing in yourself.
Don’t stop believing in God
Who makes all things possible
And beautiful in His time.

Don’t stop believing
In your dream,
In who you truly want to be.

All around you
A ton of brick walls,
Nothing seems to work,

All you have now is nothing
But your faith,

Hold on to that faith
Tenaciously

Don’t let it go
Don’t stop believing in yourself

Dream. Desire. Achieve

Then The Rains Came

Spring is here!
But the rains came today too
It started out a sunny day
It ended up wet and rainy
And so is life

Does it mean Spring is gone?
Does it mean the sun rays are hidden forever?
Will the rain make Spring go away
For good? No
And so is life

We may set up goals, plans and projects
We were hopeful in January
We had faith, we believed
But… rain is here, in March
Set backs, disappointments, failings

It’s not time to hang up that dream
It’s not time to press that quit button
A little rain cannot stop Spring
Neither can a setback stop you
Life is in seasons; Spring, Summer…

And so is your life

T – Tempests Are Testimonies #AtoZ 2018

7E004D5E-4F56-43F6-9675-83026DCE19DC

It’s quite ironical how we extract motivation from situations that are unfavourable.

We switch our minds and tone our thoughts towards survival instincts. Somewhere, somehow, from within; from our faith in God and in our self-confidence, we draw unflinching strength and poise.
We turn that negative situation into rocket fuel that catapults us to new possibilities, new heights, new realms and a whole newness of oomph.

At times, we cry and ask questions, seeking answers we know may not be there. But once we get back on our feet, we emerge like butterflies, out of their cocoon, ready to face the world, ready to emphatically stand our ground firm and strong.

Through these trials, tests, tempers and tempests, we discover our passion and many a times, our problems become our life ministries. Through pain, we discover purpose. Instead of staying defeated, we arise from the ashes and convert those cries, those rejections, wasted years, pain, hurt, etc. into philanthropistic ventures.
A book, a blog, a charity, a foundation, a school, an office, a new law or political inclinations many times are born out of adverse situations.

It’s not unusual.
It’s not vague.
It’s a human thing.
We want change.
We desire change.
We seek change.

Hence, it’s a pattern worthy of note that many of us, through God can and has turned our trials, tests, tempers and tempests into testimonies and testimonials.

Tempest Tossed

Tempest tossed
I am overwhelmed,
Hassles brewing around me
Wondering, worrying what will be,
Broken, bruised, I fall to my knee
Seeking from this pain to be free,
Then I hear a still small voice
Saying, “My child rejoice”,
I am always on your side
All you need, I will provide,
You are safe in My palms
In the hollow of My hands.

Jesus- Our Best Buddy Ever!

What a friend we have in Jesus! All our sins and griefs to bear
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer.
Oh, what peace we often forfeit! Oh, what needless pain we bear!
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

Hymn by Joseph M. Scriven

When we think of all the challenges life throws our ways;
When sickness ravages the body that the doctors and physicians are confused;
When the death of a loved one leaves us vulnerable and burdened with pain;
When despite our faith and unending prayers, the matter seems to persist;
When debts and financial crisis attempts to steal our joy;
When at the crossroads of life’s decisions we don’t know what to do;
When we are all alone struggling to keep up and there’s no one who understands; When war and terrorism attempts to bind us with fear;
When the hurt of the past stops us from moving forward;
When life comes to a halt and nothing seems to be working no matter how hard we try;
When we are in dire need of forgiveness and restoration;
When we’ve been lied to, betrayed, despised and forgotten.

In such times, we realise there’s one buddy, one friend we can count on any day, any time, anywhere.
He’s never tired or weary of us, He’s always there in good times, bad times, middle times.
He never fails and we can count on
His unending love,
His redeeming mercy,
His unfailing compassion and
HIS matchless faithfulness
To see us through the times.
No matter how we beat His chest in pain or in anger, He is never broken.
His arms are always there wrapped around us, keeping us safe and secure in Him, comforting and consoling us. And if we wipe our tears and listen closely to His heart, we will hear Him saying,
“Trust Me child, I will never leave you nor forsake you”.

Jesus, the best Buddy we can ever have!

T – Trials and Tests

Tests, trials, and setbacks may try to discourage you. Don’t be disheartened but instead, celebrate how far you’ve come. You’re may not be there yet but you have sure come a long way. Try not to dwell on what could have and many would haves, that’s the road to a pity party no one wants to come to. Instead, let the stumbling blocks be your stepping stones to something bigger and better.

For every dream and aspirations you have, there will always be wars to win and battles to fight. As they say, not every battle is for you. Choose the battles to fight but win the war. Choose the setbacks to respond to and carry on with your plans victoriously when it’s all over.

If it’s a waiting period, use it to reflect and learn the wonderful art of patience and perseverance. Use the waiting period to develop your inner character and stamina. Develop a thick skin and learn from your setbacks. Learn to smile and wave at the storm. In each test, there’s always a testimony, search deep and find yours.

At the moment, I’m also experiencing a setback in two goals I’m working on. It’s not a good place to be in but I’m also learning patience and trusting God that when it’s all over, something good and wonderful will come out of it.
#Shalom

Season of Hope: I Will Bloom

IMG_2609

So I will stand
Despite the trying times
So I will bloom
Despite the pouring rain
So I will sway
To the rhythm of the wind
So I will shine
When the sun is out
When the rain is gone
When the wind is still
No matter the rage of the rain
I will bloom

Season of Hope: Can’t Give Up Now

IMG_2610

I just can’t give up now
I’ve come too far from where I started from
Nobody told me the road would be easy
And I don’t believe He brought this far
To leave me

(Mary Mary- Can’t Give Up Now)

This beautiful encouraging song by Mary Mary has been on my mind since morning. It’s so true and very uplifting. In my little journey with God, He has not left me before. And, I know He will not leave me now.

Season of Hope: Give Me Wisdom

Give me wisdom,
To know what I can change,
Give me strength,
To accept what I cannot change,
Let my faith soar higher,
Than the eagle’s nest,
No matter the outcome I see.

Season of Hope: His Strength is Enough

IMG_2605

You must think I’m strong
To give me what I’m going through

I know I’m fighting to stay on
Buy my little strength is ebbing away

Everyone expects me to be strong
But I can’t hold it in much longer

So if there’s a strength You see in me
Open my understanding, help me find it

I just want to let out a scream
Not out of faith or for fear

But to release all my emotions
All my musings and brooding

To the One who cannot be broken
So He can bind me up again

Then,
I hear Matthew West on the radio
“I can do all things
Through Christ who gives me strength
I don’t have to be strong enough”

Yes, I don’t have to be strong enough
Because His strength is enough

Poet’s notes:
I’m personally going through a season of challenges and setbacks. I’m using this series- Season of Hope to unveil my thoughts and prayers to God. Let God do as He deems fit.

I Am A Child Of God

Below is a song that stirs ripples of praise and thanksgiving from my heart to God. It reminds me that notwithstanding any whirling of tempests, trials, temptations and tests, that I am a child of God. I will always be God’s child because His love for me is unconditional. I’m not a replacement or an afterthought, no. For He loved me and called me His child even before I was born. I am a child of God. I hope it blesses your heart too.

You unravel me, with a melody,
You surround me with a song
Of deliverance, from my enemies,
Till all my fears are gone

Chorus
I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

From my mothers womb You have chosen me
Love has called my name
I’ve been born again, into Your family
Your blood flows through my veins

Chorus
I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

(Interlude)
I am surrounded, by the arms of the Father
I am surrounded, by songs of deliverance
We’ve been liberated, from our bondage
We’re the sons and the daughters
Let us sing our freedom

(Bridge)
You split the sea so I could walk right through it
My fears were drowned in perfect love
You rescued me and I will stand and sing
I am a child of God,
I am a Child of God

Daily Prompt: Replacement

God- My Constant

Through the changing phases of my world and the different stages of life,
Through the motions of the day and the slumberings of the night,
Through the fearful forests of the unknown and the steeply stairs of the known,
Through the innocent tantrums of childhood and the rebellious times of teenagehood,
Through the lone days of spinsterhood and the busy times of parenthood,
Through the moments of painful lacks and the seasons of joyful feasts,
Through the unpredictability of life’s course and the certainty of death’s alley
Amidst the hurts, joys, heartbreaks, blessings, challenges, setbacks, disappointments, promotions, etc. etc.
I find One who is always constant, always reliable, ever faithful, ever loving, unchanging, unfailingly, no sleeping nor slumbering, all-sufficient, all-powerful, our ever present help in time of need, He never leaves us nor forsakes us,
He is the Lord our God and we can trust Him.
He is my Constant in an ever variable world.
